Jimi Stewart gave one of my favorite performances ever
Muni gave sort of a ridculous reading of this character, but as ridiculous as it was…it was more interesting than Heston’s work. I can’t ever read or think about Heston without thinking of the MAD TV skits making fun of him with the two ladies in the fat suits…
Lemmon gave one of the greatest comedic performances ever. Definitely my pick.
This is one of the most disgraceful decisions the Academy has made and ever will make.
I agree that Paul Muni was a bit weird but at least he WAS interesting unlike Heston, whom I never considered the best actor.
Laurence Harvey and especially James Stewart were both great or even fantastic.
But this should’ve been Jack Lemmon’s Lead Oscar. Even though most of the screentime seemed to be taking over by his co-stars Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe, he still stole the film and gave one of the best comedic performances in the history of film. The sad thing is with the screentime being somewhat less than Curtis, I could see him being demoted to Supporting had the film come out in today’s world when work by such nominees as Casey Affleck and Hailee Steinfeld can be “classified” as supporting.
I would have given Stewart the win for Harvey. Lemmon was my favourite of the year, but considering he has two, I would reward Stewart in this opportunity.
