One of the worst years in recent oscar history
My personal choice in 1996 was NONE of these guys.
KENNETH BRANAGH in Hamlet and
DANIEL DAY LEWIS in The Crucible both left off the list for
the 2 best actor performances of that year.
From this terrible group…RUSH was the best in a category fraud
Tough choice for me between Harrelson & Rush…
Geoffrey Rush gets it by default.
I concur with the mention of the snubbed Kenneth Branagh. Daniel Day Lewis definitely was better than Cruise or Harrelson. Ralph Fiennes was good but his nomination is debatable….same for Thornton.
I thought William H. Macy should have been nominated in Lead for Fargo. He would have gotten my vote.
Rush swept everything that year for a reason. He deserved it.
Fiennes is in second place and Thornton in third.
Harrleson and Cruise should not be here. Insert Kenneth Branagh and Daniel Day-Lewis, or even Nathan Lane for The Birdcage.
Rush is perfection, but not a lead performance. Cruise and Harrelson fight for the win to me.
Never get the appeal behind Thornton and Fiennes.
I voted for Harrelson. Rush was definitely Supporting in Shine, IMO. I believe that Noah Taylor was Lead, since he had the most screentime of anyone in the film.
I dont have a problem with Rush in Lead. Noah was incredible. In fact the cast is incredible. Once he sat down and played Flight of the Bumblebee, that was it for me. Rush.
