Notably, Neal was nominated for Supporting Actress by the Golden Globes. Was this worthy of Best Actress recognition?
1. Patricia Neal, HUD
2. Leslie Caron, THE L-SHAPED ROOM
3. Rachel Roberts, THIS SPORTING LIFE
4. Shirley MacLaine, IRMA LA DOUCE
5. Natalie Wood, LOVE WITH THE PROPER STRANGER
I don’t care about category placement really. I may not have placed Neal in leading, but whether or not it belongs there makes no difference to me. I compare the quality of the work – what the performer did with the material amongst the nominees – not they didn’t deserve to win because their part was smaller or not the main focus of the film.
Neal is my choice but only by a smidge over Caron. Roberts was very good. MacLaine & Wood I can do without.
