Does Jodie win by default?March 10, 2013 at 11:27 am #542725
Well, I voted for Jodie.
It’s actually one of my favorite best actress winners of all time.March 10, 2013 at 1:28 pm #542726
Thelma & Louise is a perfect movie with the best duo for leading women, but Foster in TSOL is outta this world.March 10, 2013 at 3:07 pm #542727
Despite very strong work by Susan Sarandon and Laura Dern and Geena Davis (I don’t really factor Midler into this race), there is no contest that Jodie Foster brought so much to the role of Clarice. It is one of the best wins ever in the history of the Oscars.March 10, 2013 at 4:39 pm #542728
Jodie deserves this oscar but not the one for THE ACCUSED…March 10, 2013 at 5:56 pm #542729

Jodie Foster.March 11, 2013 at 10:58 am #542732
I love THELMA & LOUISE and Sarandon is my fav this year, with Foster a close second. Davis is not one of my favs for sure, but she was good here. However, I still would put Midler above her…for a very good showcase for her talents.

Sarandon (thus giving Streep the 95 Oscar)
Foster hardly acts in Silence. She just says words with facial expressions. She should have Oscars for Taxi Driver and Nell, not the two she has.June 27, 2013 at 8:12 pm #542734
^^^ I’m sorry but that is completely wrong. You need to rewatch Silence of the Lambs. Foster is an unrivaled physical actor, not just in action scenes but how she reacts to her environment. Look at how she plays the final showdown with Buffalo Bill, how she moves through the basement, when the lights go out and she’s in the dark, and then once she shoots him how she handles the gun and tries to reload it, struggling in shock. In the first confrontation scene where Clarice meets Hannibal Lecter, Foster is so natural in her reaction to Hannibal calling Clarice “a well-scrubbed hustling rube with a little taste,” you totally feel her shame and embarassment. And the final confrontation with Hannibal in the bird cage, when she reveals Clarice’s past, singlehandedly deserved the Oscar. I think it was one of the best wins for a career-best role in the history of this category.
Very interesting though that you would vote for Nell. I think that is a great performance that fell victim to the direction of the film.
