A very good Best Actress lineup, if you ask me.
Ellen Burstyn was a tour-de-force in Requiem for a Dream.
Julia Roberts was terrific in a great role.
Joan Allen was a force to be reckoned with in a very underappreciated movie.
Juliette Binoche was the best part of a mediocre movie.
Laura Linney gave one of her few performances that I actually like.
My vote goes to Burstyn, but I have nothing against Roberts’ win.
Personally I would replace Linney with Bjork for Dancer in the Dark, who would have easily been my winner.
I gave it to Burstyn although Michelle Yeoh would have been a great winner.
Ellen Burstyn without a doubt. Laura Linney is a strong second.
5. Roberts – ugggh
Bjork in Dancer in the Dark
Definitely Julia Roberts. The greatest performance of the decade, right behind Theron and Cotillard. The rest of the lineup is mediocre. Burstyn was great, Linney (an actor I can’t stand) was actually tolerable, Allen was okay, but Binoche was only nominated based on the Harvey factor. I would’ve taken out Allen and Binoche, and replaced them with Bjork and Yeoh.
