Has to be De Niro, but not bad overall.

Close call between DeNiro and Day-Lewis

    1. DeNiro (could also put John Hurt in his place for the win in 80)
    2. Day-Lewis
    3. Fonda
    4. Duvall (shoulda been Courtenay)
    5. Hurt (shoulda been Nicholson)
    6. Kingsley (shoulda been Hoffman)
    7. Abraham (shoulda been Finney)
    8. Newman (shoulda been Woods)
    9. Douglas (shoulda been Nicholson)
    10. Hoffman (shoulda been Von Sydow)

Very strong list overall….it is easier to sort through than Actress winners from the 80s:

    #1-Robert DeNiro
    #2-Daniel Day-Lewis
    #3-F. Murray Abraham
    #4-William Hurt
#5-Ben Kingsley (would’ve given it to Hoffman but Kingsley was still very good)
#6-Henry Fonda (would’ve given it to Moore)
#7-Dustin Hoffman (don’t mind the win, but Von Sydow or Hanks would’ve gotten my vote)
    #8-Michael Douglas
#9-Robert Duvall (would’ve given it to Caine)
#10-Paul Newman (would’ve given it to Hoskins)

Can’t make my mind up. Very tempted to go with Fonda. Between him Hurt and Day Lewis.

Been such a long time since I’ve seen Raging Bull I can’t rate De Niro properly.

I went with De Niro. His performance in Raging Bull is my personal best acting performance of all time. Also, Raging Bull is my favorite film of all time.

Am I the only one who believes that Daniel Day-Lewis did not deserve his first Oscar for My Left Foot? Tom Cruise should have won that in a cakewalk.

Cake walk? Is that supposed to be funny? Day-Lewis played a man fully paralyzed from cerebal palsy and Cruise played Kovic, a wheelchair-bound Vietnam vet. Lol. Cake walk.

I dunno. I think DDL deserved that Oscar. Had Cruise contended the following year against Jeremy Irons, I think he would have won in a cake…I mean it would have been easy as pie.

No, I  was not trying to be funny. I was saying that Cruise winning that year shouldn’t have been hard. Cruise won the Golden Globe in 1990, and DDL won the BAFTA and the Oscar. Tom Cruise deserved it, IMO. He had more emotional weight to carry than DDL.

    6) Ben Kingsley
    7) Henry Fonda

Abraham, De Niro and Kingsley gave performances of lifetime. I went with Abraham because I simply love the movie.
