The top 5 is VERY close:

    #1-Emma Thompson
    #2-Jodie Foster
    #3-Hilary Swank
    #4-Kathy Bates
#5-Holly Hunter (fine with the win but Bassett and Channing were both great and I would consider voting for them, esp. Channing
#6-Susan Sarandon (good performance, deserving win but I would’ve voted for Shue)
#7-Helen Hunt (not a terrible win at all, but my vote would go to Judi Dench)
#8-Frances McDormand (good performance but surprised by the hosannas it received….I would vote for Brenda Blethyn)
#9-Gwyneth Paltrow (would’ve given it to Blanchett)
#10-Jessica Lange (would’ve given it to Richardson)

    Jodie Foster
is incredible in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.  Someone said it perfectly: she
shows you visually her subconscious thoughts.  It’s a very internal
performance.  The “fava beans” scene–just her reaction to Dr.
Lecter calling her a rube is quite extraordinary acting.  And then, of
course, the final meeting between the two of them when her backstory is
    revealed = tremendous performance.

Great set of winners for the most part…

    1. McDormand
    2. Thompson
    3. Foster (although my top choice was Sarandon it was very close)
    4. Hunter (flip flop between Hunter & Channing, usually going with Channing)
    5. Swank
    6. Lange
    7. Bates (although my top choice was Streep, both Bates & Huston were a fraction of a hair behind)
    8. Sarandon (my choice for 95 is Thompson)
    9. Paltrow (my choice for 98 is Streep)
    10. Hunt (my choice for 97 is Christie)

    Great list of winners…

    1. McDormand
    2. Sarandon
    3. Hunter ( a tie with Channing)
    4. Swank
    5. Foster (should have been Midler, loved Lambs but it was also very overrated)
    6. Thompson
    7. Lange
    8. Bates
    9. Hunt ( should have been Carter)
    10. Paltrow (should have been Watson )

Swank and Foster in a dead heat. I went with Swank.

It was hard between Swank and Foster, but I choosed Swank.

    1. Swank, Boys Don’t Cry
    2. Foster, Silence of the Lambs
    3. Hunter, The Piano (Why nobody singled out Thompson? For me she was the only one close to Hunter)
    4. Bates, Misery
    5. McDormand, Fargo (My #1: Watson, Breaking the Waves)
    6. Sarandon, Dead Man Walking
    7. Thompson, Howards End (My #1: Deneuve, Indochine)
    8. Hunt, As Good As It Gets (My #1: Bonham Carter, Wings of the Dove)
    9. Lange, Blue Sky (My #1: Foster, Nell)
    10. Paltrow, Shakespeare in Love (My #1: Montenegro, Central Station or Watson, Hilary & Jackie)
