One of the best current working actresses these days; who has supplied nothing but the best in all her films. Which performance in your opinion is her best to date?December 18, 2012 at 6:09 pm #541404
I decided to give her props for Bandits. She’s so amazing in Elizabeth, Little Fish, etc etc. But I loved her as Kate Wheeler.December 18, 2012 at 7:15 pm #541405
2. Notes on a Scandal
3. The Aviator
4. Curious Case of Benjamin button
I haven’t seen any other films by her that are listed above. I might be crazy but i think she should have 3 oscars by now. ( Elizabeth, The Aviator, and Notes on a scandal. But giving her 3 oscars before she was 40 would be pretty extreme. lolDecember 18, 2012 at 7:53 pm #541406
Although I agree that she deserved the Oscar far more than Paltrow for Elizabeth, which was an amazing performance, I find it to actually be one of her weaker performances (that’s how incredible she is).
I loved her in The Aviator but I think her best performance to date is Notes on a Scandal. She should’ve been rightfully placed in lead with Dench, replacing Meryl Streep who would fight it out with Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine) for Blanchett’s spot in supporting, and she would’ve duked it out with Mirren and Winslet and possibly even Dench for the win. I agree with whoever said above that she should have three Oscars by now.
Such a great year for actresses, both lead and supporting. Really puts this year to shame.December 18, 2012 at 8:14 pm #541407
I’m not a huge Blanchett fan. I prefer heart over technical brilliance. But there’s no denying her talent. Her performances in Little Fish, Bandits, Heaven, I’m Not Here, and Coffee and Cigarettes are probably my favorites of hers. I don’t really care for her in The Aviatar and Elizabeth. Her work in The Gift is underrated.
She should have competed in lead for Notes On A Scandal, and I wouldn’t have opposed a nomination there. Yet, if I were going to put Streep in supporting and remove Winslet altogether, Maggie Gyllenhall (Sherrybaby), Gretchen Mol (Notorious Betty Page), Laura Dern (Inland Empire), Maggie Cheung (Clean) or Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth) would have filled my last two slots.December 19, 2012 at 4:02 pm #541408
This is really a hard choice. For me, it comes down to Elizabeth, Little Fish, and Notes on a Scandal…..and I will probably choose Elizabeth by a hair. She should have Oscars for that film and another for Notes on a Scandal along with additional nominations for Bandits and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button….she shouldn’t have been nominated for either performance the year she received a double nomination.December 20, 2012 at 11:25 am #541409
Agree this is really, really hard. I voted for “Elizabeth” simply because Blanchett deserved to win the Oscar for that incredible performance.
However, my favorite just might be Blanchett as Tracy in “Little Fish.”December 20, 2012 at 3:40 pm #541410
My favorite performance from her was Notes on a Scandal. Judi and Cate should have won the oscars that year IMO.December 20, 2012 at 5:56 pm #541411
I’m surprised to see votes for the performance from I’m Not There. It got my vote and should’ve won her the Oscar but that film and that performance was so divisive Cate did not have a chance.
