Richardson won, but it was mainly because of the film’s popularity. There was also a rare case of 3 lone director nominees. Who was the best director this year?
Fellini by far.
Its actually the 1963 oscars given in 1964….
Oscar got it right TOM JONES AND RICHARDSON
by a mile
Pffft. No way it could be anyone else. Fellini. Hell, even Preminger wasn’t even close that year. Like seriously, it’s so clearly a thing of its time to give it to Richardson for a film that is remembered for nothing else but doing well at the Oscars. Fellini is so far and away the best in the competition, it’s actually rather embarrassing he lost, it looks so obvious now.
I actually just made a thread for this a week or so ago.
Sorry, I do the years differently so I didn’t notice it. Oops.
