There are more but I selected these 10 as there is a 10-option maximum.

    Wyler.

I’ll watch more or less anything he made. More classics than any other director.

^^^ Yeah, I agree. Ang Lee deserves a spot on this list. If there had been an “Other” as the 10th option in this poll, my vote would’ve gone to him.

I have David Lean personally ranked as first. His Lawrence of Arabia and Bridge on the River Kwai are directing masterpieces, imo.

Technically, Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, and Akira Kurosawa have multiple Oscars.  Not Best Director statues, but all have at least two for foreign film.

Billy Wilder for sure…even though I personally would not have him a winner for those 2 he won for…but only because of who else was nominated.  DOUBLE INDEMNITY and SUNSET BOULEVARD should be the two winners.

I’d give Wilder writing Oscars for Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd, Some Like it Hot and The Apartment, and directing wins for Sunset Blvd and The Apartment

I think Hitchcock deserved to win director for Psycho.  Of course, he famously wasn’t nominated for Vertigo, which is an extraordinary directed film.  I’d also give him a win for Rebecca (over Ford).  Rear Window vs. On the Waterfront is a real tough decision.

Of these people, maybe only David Lean won for the right films in his career.  And maybe should have had a third win with Brief Encounter, which he received a nomination for.

    Other two-time nominees:
    Frank Lloyd
    Clint Eastwood
    Lewis Milestone
    Leo McCarey
    Robert Wise
    Oliver Stone
    Milos Forman
    Ang Lee
    Frank Borzage
