A CLOCKWORK ORANGE  stands on my top 100 films
as #7 of all-time..so that would be the choice here, but
THE LAST PICTURE SHOW is ranked #48…so we have 2
great films in the same year..

I am not a fan of the french connection at all
Nicholas and Alexandra was NOT worthy
and i do like  FIDDLER  quite alot..

The French Connection is a film I watched, found it decent, watched it again, still found it decent…..the only saving grace for me were the performances of Hackman and Scheider. I am shocked it even got awards traction honestly.

Nicholas and Alexandra was long and very hard to sit through….but it does have so fans out there. I have a friend who absolutely adores it.

Fiddler on the Roof was a very good film adaptation of one of the greatest Broadway musicals.

In the end, it all comes down to The Last Picture Show and A Clockwork Orange. Both are films I admire greatly and love their respective styles. I have seen the former less while the latter was part of a movie going period in my life that shaped me and made me more of a movie fan (that film along with Blue Velvet and Pulp Fiction).

While The Last Picture Show was a classy, sleak, and very personal film with some great performances….I can’t help but find the shocking and pervasive work by Kubrick to be the more enthralling piece of art (although LPS could take it over someday).

    Hard choice between top two!!!

    1. The Last Picture Show
    2. A Clockwork Orange
    3. Fiddler On the Roof
    4. The French Connection
    5. Nicholas and Alexandra

I don’t like Fiddler On The Roof. Have never watched Nicholas and Alexandra. The Last Picture Show is a very good film, but simply not at the level of the other two.

I went with “The French Connection” because not only it is truly great, but because I love Friedkin’s direction. I love “The Clockwork Orange” as well, but there are other Kubrick films I simply care about much more.
