The Best Actor 1997 thread inspired me to create this one. Very weak year for actors.

Williams’ win feels to me like overdue recognition, and if he hadn’t won I feel that he would still be doing Oscar caliber work. My personal winner is Johnny Depp in Donnie Brasco. His work in that film is far better than Hopkins’ in Amistad. Depp was snubbed numerous times in the 90’s, for Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood, as well as for his win-worthy performance in Donnie Brasco. It’s a shame that Oscar didn’t recognize him until the 2000’s (hopefully he can win for The Story of Dr. Seuss). In second place I would have Williams or Reynolds. My line-up:

    *Depp*
    Forster
    Kinnear
    Reynolds
    Williams

This was another landslide in my opinion. He was incredible in that movie.

I’d go with Robin Williams. I still find him to be incredible in Good Will Hunting. It would have been great if Kevin Spacey could have gotten in for L.A. Confidential, though.

    Ranking the Nominees
    1) Robin Williams
    2) Burt Reynolds
    3) Greg Kinnear
    4) Robert Forster
    5) Anthony Hopkins

    Personal Nominees:
    1) Robin Williams
    2) Burt Reynolds
    3) Kevin Spacey
    4) Greg Kinnear
    5) Robert Forster

Of this list, I’d give it to Robin Williams because I found the performance good plus it did kind of also serve as an overdue win.

I do think the LA Confidential guys should have had some sort of presence here.

Could easily go with Forester, Kinnear or Reynolds.  Hopkins was good in a no nonsense kinda performance. Williams reeks of insincerity IMO.

    1. Kinnear
    2. Forester
    3. Reynolds
    4. Hopkins
    5. Williams

Robin Williams was the rightful winner here. Very surprised Burt Reynolds was a huge contender the whole season for an okay perofmrance.

This was so easy for me. Williams by a huge margin.
