I always found the rejection to Foxx performance very odd. To me it’s not only better than his work on Ray, but the best one out of the line-up. But then again, he and Owen are the only ones I cared about a lot on this line-up. Haden Church is good, but not great. Alda was okay, but also random. And Freeman was doing stand wise old man role and not really taking much above the archtype even though he has nice moments.

    1. Foxx
    2. Owen
    3. Freeman
    4. Church
    5. Alda (random nom is random)

Freeman is a great actor, but other than overdue I don’t understand why he won.  This performance was competent, but nothing special.  Alda is a great actor as well, and knowing he had but a bit of screentime going in (after noms had been announced) I thought he would be so incredible!  He wasn’t.  Owen is by far my fav performance here.

    1. Owen
    2. Church
    3. Foxx
    4. Freeman
    5. Alda

Freeman was solid enough, so I’m okay with his win. However, I currently have him as my winner for Se7en, so I’d probably give this to Clive Owen or Thomas Haden Church.

Alda is the worst nominee of the bunch.

    All deserving performances.

Alan Alda: Killer in that role.
Thomas Haden Church: Perfect role for him.
    Foxx: Amazing performance.
Freeman: Always is great but this was the long overdue factor and a great performance.
Owen: Hate most of his movies BUT this showed what he really can do.

Had to go w Freeman but would have been happy if any of these guys won.

Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen were both great but “Million Dollar Baby” was my favorite film of the year while I had a fair amoutn of problems with “Closer” so Freeman gets my vote.

    None of them.

What a lacklustre lineup. Morgan Freeman’s win is the very definition of a career win. He did absolutely nothing in ‘MDB’ to desreve and Oscar.

I suppose I’d go with Church at a push.

    Neither did Hilary Swank.

I disagree with you on Freeman. He was great. In my opinion, Swank took  Annette Benning’s Oscar. I still cannot get past how Benning lost that year.

I have always been amazed by how much merit people give Foxx for his role in Collateral. Completely forgettable, every time I watch it (Despite him even being the film’s LEAD ACTOR).

Still haven’t seen Closer, but Church’s performance is the only one above I would applaud.
