These two women are very good with Amy Adams being a light and caring performance to this film that has a very dramatic subject matter that hits one of it’s two highs when Viola Davis comes on the screen, that’s why my vote goes to Viola. The character of Mrs. Miller is a very interesting one because when she meets with Sister Aloysius she keeps saying “Just till june” and you say to yourself what is she doing, does she care for her child at all, but then we learn her son is abused by his father which I think makes Mr.s Miller scared her husband will abuse her. All of this performance is one screen for about 20-30 minutes of a the film and Davis makes the most of her screentime. If it were not for Penelope Cruz I may have voted for Viola Davis.

I do think Viola Davis is a fine actress. The meeting with Mrs. Miller and Sister Aloysius is the key scene.
But…. Amy Adam’s character Sister James is quite underrated or just dismissed as a young naive nun who likes her students and Frosty the Snowman. She clearly has respect (and is a bit scared) of Sister Aloysius, but also likes Father Flynn because of his open mind.
Then she “sees” something and although she’s not sure what she saw, Sister James brings the rock to roll and get more and more between the “fight” of the older nun and the priest and there is a point where even she does not know what to believe anymore.
I think Amy Adams played this disrupted character really great and if I had been a voter, she’d got my vote. Over Viola, over Penélope Cruz.

About Viola. It was a nice, emotional cameo but that’s all. Wasn’t worthy for any Oscar. I don’t know what’s this “love” around her at all. She’s talented. But we can find 500 actresses in the same level as she is. We call them as “ordinary” actresses who are always the bridesmaids and never the bride.

I remembered watching Viola Davis on Doubt and being blown away. Adams on the other hand, didn’t leave much of an impact on me, so I’m going with Davis here.

Viola Davis. I much preferred Streep to Adams. And when Davis and Streep when head-to-head those 8 minutes, Davis overshadowed Streep.

Davis owns Doubt in a way that is quite unbelievable that she was there for only 8 minutes. Her pain, her wishes, everything is so damn perfect that I can’t vote for Adams.

I love ’em both, but I definitely think Davis absolutely owned her 8 minutes. Adams was quite strong too, but Davis was a revelation and in such a short time.

    Viola! You go gal!

I didnt care for Adams in this. I actually, actively disliked her perf and her character. A first, and possibly a last for me. I enjoyed her far more in “Leap Year”, than “Doubt”.

Well, I prefer her more in Enchanted and Sunshine Cleaning than in her Oscar nominated roles for Doubt and The Fighter 🙂

Viola. What she was able to do on-screen in those 8 minutes was just tremendous.

I prefer Emily Blunt in SSC but think that Amy is perfect in Enchanted.
