With “Blue Jasmine” doing very well, I thought it would be interesting to do polls of best Woody Allen films by decade, as he is one of the most prolific american directors of all time (not an exaggeration), and trying to reduce the number to 10 of the entire career wouldn’t really give a good notion of his career.

he has a few film in the 60’s, but nothing as important and represnetative of who he is as his work from the 70’s up to today. So we’ll start from there and continue until we reach his work nowadays. So, choose your favorite.

The Front is a peculiar choice to include considering he did not direct it, instead was an actor only.  His best performance IMO. Play It Again Sam also not directed by Allen, but he did adapt his own play for the screen.

I voted ANNIE HALL…a perfect film.  I wanted to vote for Love & Death or Sleeper, because I sooooo love his pre Annie Hall comedies which are very much unlike Annie Hall and beyond…except A Mid Summer Night’s Sex Comedy recalls his earlier films.

I voted for ANNIE HALL, but Love & Death is possibly his most underrated film and the perfect bridge from his earlier slapstick era to his more mature films (not to mention, I can’t say “Wheat” without thinking about the film and smiling).

SLEEPER and INTERIORS were both quite good.

The others range from weak (Bananas) to decent (Manhattan) to good (Sam, Sex).

“Annie Hall”‘s his best film, but “Sleeper” is my favorite after “Take the Money and Run”.
