Vote for your favorite performance by Bette Davis.

Please note that the poll only allows for ten choices, and I had to leave off some of Bette’s most iconic roles.

So feel free to ‘write in’ your favorite Bette Davis character/film if you don’t see it listed above.

Thanks! I’d like to kiss ya, but I just washed my hair!

Should’ve won the Oscar for “…Baby Jane.”

I wouldn’t call these my “favorite” Davis performances per se, but there are two very interesting Davis performances that I’ve always felt have been unfairly swept under the rug when discussions of her film legacy come up. Her performance as an unwed mother who must hold her daughter at arm’s distance as her cold “spinster aunt” in 1939’s “The Old Maid” probably could have garnered Davis an Oscar nomination had she not had “Dark Victory” in the same year.

I also very much enjoy her admirably underdone Miss Moffatt in 1945’s “The Corn is Green”… it’s one of the few performances in this particular era that never once feels like Davis is making any lunges at “Acting” as much as she is simply BEING a character, and for me, it stands as one of her most nuanced and truly likable performances.

Also: on television, Davis had TERRIFIC chemistry with Gena Rowlands as the title characters in the telefilm “Strangers: The Story of a Mother and Daughter,” which I believe can be seen in its entirety on youtube (and which garnered Davis an Emmy).

^I really wanted to include Bette as Miss Moffatt in THE CORN IS GREEN, which I only recently saw for the first time. She really is brilliant in that film. Thank you for mentioning it!

Nothing tops her AAE performance. Still pissed she never won for that role.

Funny. I think I deleted the “Eve” word before I sent my message. 🙂

Nobody ever mentions “The Catered Affair”.
I’d put this as her third best performance, ever.
    After #1 The Letter
            #2 All About Eve
Baby Jane would be #4 for me, and Little Foxes at #5.

She easily has 20 performances that merited oscar attention (a nomination or a win).
What other actress (with the exception of Meryl Steep) can claim that?

Gloria Swanson deserved the Oscar that year. She never had another chance at Oscar gold, and this was her first time to bat in over 20 years…

I can’t choose 1 performance that was the best from her because all of them were so damn good! But i do agree that she should have won the oscar for Baby Jane.

I might be crazy but IMO these are the performances that she should have received oscars for.

    Dangerous
    Jezebel
    The Letter
    Now, Voyager
    All About Eve
    Whatever happened to baby jane.

She should have that title of winning the most oscars.
