If AFI was going to update their 100 Heroes and Villains list, who should be added?

    Heroes:
    Harry Potter (Harry Potter Series)
    Batman (The Dark Knight)

    Villains:
    Voldemort (Harry Potter Series)
    Regina George (Mean Girls)
    Hans Landa (Inglorious Basterds)
    Joker (The Dark Knight)

And I know there are more that I just can’t think of

I think Jason Bourne and V (from V for Vendetta) would be good additions to the heroes list. On the villains side, I would add Sauron and Loki and maybe Scar (from the lion king). I would also approve Hans Landa’s addition.

I wouldn’t consider Meryl Streep in Doubt as a villain but I would consider her a villain in The Devil Wears Prada.

I’d really like if you could explain these (and even Theron)

Depp, on second thought, probably doesn’t belong on the list. But AFI also considers Travis Bickle a villain, so it’s plausible.

Don’t know why Dench or Theron need explanation. Both play despicable characters that – at the end of their films – fail to realize that they are responsible for everything that has happened and will happen to them.

Like I said in the parantheses that you removed, Portman may or may not be a villain. I’m still trying to figure that movie out.

I understand the debate about Streep in Doubt, I personally see her as the antagonist who is condescending, mistreating and manipulative of those around her. It’s also valid to see her as a villain if you are either extremely religious or one of the people who detests religion.
Streep in Prada for me starts off as a villain, but by the end of the film is shown to not be as evil as she is portrayed.
