Nathan Lane hands down by 10 million miles. I have no idea how Cruise won this. Lane is a riot in The Birdcage and deserved an Oscar nomination too
Tom Cruise and Eddie Murphy are both tied for me. They are both wonderful performances.
Tom Cruise is wonderful, here. Probably one of the best jobs of him utilizing his movie star charisma.
Lane is okay, but it’s a schtick, and not one I felt anchored the film well enough to merit a win.
I really loved Nathan Lane in The Birdcage. It showed off his considerable talents, and I agree he should’ve won this. Tom Cruise was the biggest movie star in the world at that point, so I understood why he won, and he was very good in Jerry Maguire.
I agree that Lane deserved an Oscar nomination, and when you consider that Cuba Gooding Jr. won, it is easy to think if nominated, Lane could’ve beaten him.
Eddie Murphy. Hands down. I would even say he deserved an Oscar nomination (and maybe win) for his performance.
