It’s no secret how well-received both of Lange’s performances on “American Horror Story” have been.  Soon after, it was reported that Barbara Hershey would be doing “Once Upon a Time,” Julianne Moore would be doing “Carrie,” and Vera Farmiga would be doing “The Bates Motel.”  There are other projects in the works.

Also, now Kathy Bates has joined “American Horror Story”…

    What do you think?

I think its definitley a possibility. She’s been picking up nominations and silverware like there’s no tomorrow, why wouldn’t any other actresses want a piece of that.

    It seems they’re all selective though in picking horror projects (quite sensibly though, I just think of how Hilary Swank and Halle Berry screwed up so much), it seems like they either pick projects;

Helmed by big respected names, just think Jessica Chastain in Mama because of Guillermo Del Toro. Or Lange, Bates and Conroy in AHS because of Ryan Murphy.

    OR…

Where they’ll get a juicy, challenging role. Think Julianne Moore as Carrie’s mother in Carrie; it’s such a baity role I reckon it’ll get awards buzz; just like Piper Laurie did in the same part in the original; but I dunno if her Oscar chances will be harmed by the comparions with Mo’Nique; since she slayed as the abusive mother so few years ago! Other baity roles would be any female character in American Horror Story (less so the men though)

But I do agree that Lange could’ve helped start the trend. I just wish there wasn’t such an unfair snobbery against horror; I know some is tasteless tripe but some is just brilliant, I mean I still think Nicole Kidman’s best performance was in the Others; I mean there’s people like Natalie Portman who say its the one genre they’d never do. I just think it’s stupid!

Love your footer by the way; so hope Lange gets nominated next year!

^ Wow.  You’ll be the first overtly obvious Jessica Lange fan I’ve met on here; that is, of course, if you’re being sincere   Frankly, I think I’ve scared people from admitting their love for Legend Lange, though it’s quite obvious with some no matter how much they detract…

Also, I agree about the “snobbery against horror”; it’s ridiculous.

    Thanks for responding!

Of course she did! After all thanks to her facial surgery, she’s a living horror film!

Was just going deleting old notifications and realiised I never replied to this. Yes, I am being sincere, I do love JLange.

So glad its not just me who can’t stand the snobs who try and say horror isn’t a respectable genre. The other day I was reading a newspaper article where a journalist was interviewing Rebecca Hall, I found him really patronising all the way through, but what got to me when he basically asked her why she had just done a horror film since she could have easily picked a more “sophisticated” film .

To which she basically responded that she chose each project on its individual merit and not on childish misconceptions about genre. So I was pretty impressed with her for saying that.I think Jessica Lange and these other legenadary ladies doing horror/fantasy projects chose to do them on the same basis.

Well, plenty of ‘respected’ actors have done horror before Lange. Rachel Weisz. Vera Farmiga (Orphan baby, Orphan), Rose Byrne, Beatrice Straight, Ellen Burstyn, Nicole Kidman, Susan Sarahdon, Joan Crawford, Deborah Kerr, Jamie Lee Curtis and Janet Leigh, Catherine Deneuve, Jodie Foster, Mia Farrow, Julie Christie, Sissy Spacek, Jennifer Lawrence, Sigourney Weaver. It’s a long list and I’m leaving out many others.
I like Lange but really, being in a horror film is no big deal imo. She and many others. The fact that she’s respected is what matters.

I mostly care about Bette Davis and Geraldine Page’s histories with horror.  They were both great in the genre and it didn’t compromise their status as legends.  As for the rest

THIS. I’ve said before on one of the many Lange’s threads that her face looks like a mask. It’s really sad. It was the first thing my family said when she got onstage at the Emmys.
