Where’s Doubt and The Iron Lady. If Streep had been without Oscars until the mid 2000s, I’d say she would have won in close succession for these two mentioned leading roles.

Is there a reason why A Cry in the Dark isnt up there? Because the poll would be so heavily weighted it wouldnt tell us much?

Because there’s only 10 lines and she has more than 10 good performances, smarta$$! 😀

I’m going to replace Postcards from the Edge with Doubt, which completely escaped my mind. However, there’s only 10 lines. I still don’t think that The Iron Lady was all that Oscar worthy. The industry just wanted to throw another bone to its biggest star and that was such a showy, loud role they had no choice but to give it to her for that or face criticism by Streep’s obsessive fans.

How can you expect us to give honest opinions in a POLL if YOU don’t think her performance in Iron Lady was Oscar worthy…? This is a ridiculous poll then!! I can’t give you an honest answer now. If you can’t fit all of her Oscar-nominated performances in, don’t make the frigging poll, dude.

I chose TFLW, but the answer is obviously A Cry in the Dark

“Obviously?” Now that is pretentious, dude… 1) no one remembers that movie other than for the line “A dingo ate my baby!”

Polls are meant to be a matter of opinion, not fact.

For example, how can someone define the term “Best Film?” Some say The Godfather. Others say Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Singin’ in the Rain, Jaws, The Grapes of Wrath, etc…

Is there such a thing as a definitive Meryl Streep performance? Perhaps…she’s getting broader and broader. It’d be nice if she choose good films with good roles, not just bad films with good roles…

Seeing as my answers are ‘A Cry In The Dark’ and ‘The Iron Lady’ neither of which are here I can’t really vote.

That gif just became my new favorite thing.

A Cry in the Dark far outshines any of her nominated performances, except for Sophie’s Choice.  That’s the kind of acting that makes a legend.

How is that opinion “pretentious?”  Just because the movie doesn’t have a large fanbase doesn’t mean it’s not good.

A Cry in the Dark may not be her best or most entertaining film but it does contain her best performance after Sophie’s Choice…many on here in the past have actually preferred her in that over Sophie’s Choice.

In the absense of A Cry in the Dark I voted for Devil Wears Prada

I would have given her wins for:

Kramer vs. Kramer (still debating whether this is lead or supporting, been a while since I last saw the film)
    Sophie’s Choice
    A Cry in the Dark
    One True Thing
    Adaptation.
The Devil Wears Prada (in supporting)

I would have ranked her second for:

    The French Lieutenant’s Woman
    The Bridges of Madison County
    Julie and Julia
    August: Osage County

I would have given additional nominations for:

    The Seduction of Joe Tynan
Plenty (instead of Out of Africa)
    Ironweed (moved to supporting)
    Death Becomes Her
    The River Wild
    The Manchurian Candidate

Lol. Douchette, if I wanted to insult this poll, there would be very little doubt about it.
I was being serious (and nice). I’m willing to bet heavily that if Cry in the Dark was an option, it would get the lion’s share of the votes. And that’s for a reason,
