Personally, I picked The Apartment, though I recall being blown away after watching his work in Glengarry Glen Ross for the first time.
Surprised you don’t have Tribute listed here. I suppose 12 Angry Men and Tuesdays With Morrie could be palpable picks as well, even if they were television productions.
1. THE APARTMENT
2. DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES
3. SOME LIKE IT HOT
Some Like It Hot!!!
One of the funniest movies ever made.
Lemmon is also excellent in Days of Wine and Roses.
I voted for Some Like it Hot, though it was a close call over The Apartment and Days of Wine and Roses…..I also thought he was very good in Glengarry Glen Ross.
Missing is still a performance that grips me. Lemmon never lets us forget his discomfort in his gut. His slow awakening to the indifference of his country to the fate if his son is heartbreaking. Lemmon internalized Ed’s pain and allows us to witness it in a vulnerable, exposed performance that captured the disappointment of a generation who were compelled to reevaluate their country. It is a performance that many in America would benefit from watching today
