Jane Fonda won Best Actress award in 1971 as a prostitute in Klute, and won again in lead actress in 1978 as a army wife in Coming Home. Which performance do you think is best and why?
I love her KLUTE performance better than COMING HOME
but IMO….her 2 greatest performances are not her oscar winning roles..
Without a doubt…
1969 THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON’T THEY?
Klute remains my favorite.
I love the scene where Bree Daniels is alone in her apartment and feeds her cat. Fonda has the character absentmidedly lick the utensil after scraping the cat food from the can. In that moment, Fonda conveys the character’s isolation and distraction while creating a moment that lulls the audience into a deeper connection with character.
Klute for sure.
Klute. Though I did love her acceptance speech for Coming Home. Very thoughtful to dedicate a segment to the deaf people in the world.
However I agree, that her best performance would be JULIA.
KLUTE, quite easily.
I do agree she was probably at her strongest in THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON’T THEY? and that she had many lovely moments in JULIA, especially when she acted with Redgrave. I, for one, didn’t care for her in COMING HOME and felt her Oscar should have been given to Ingrid Bergman or Jill Clayburgh.
