I think that Mira is one of the worst Supporting Actress winners out there. No offense to her, but how did she beat Winslet’s powerful performance in S&S (1995.) She had the SAG, BAFTA, and was in a BP frontrunner. Just wondering if you think I’m wrong, which one did you prefer to win and why?

Sometimes there is no answer for a stupid act. The Academy made a mistake like they did before and after that for several time.

Winslet should’ve won for this; for ESOSM and for The Reader as well. That’s the truth.

I agree! Its a shame great actresses like Winslet and Blanchett only have one Oscar…Not even for their best performance.

    Lol.

I personally think Sorvino was great and a worthy winner. But Winslet’s perf is so touching, so true to the spirit of it’s history, I voted for her.

Sense and Sensibility, not Titanic, is what made me fall in love with Kate Winslet. She was the deserving winner.

To be honest, growing up I always supported Mira Sorvino and I will also be completely honest in saying I still really like Sorvino and even think she was a worthy winner….despite this, I now feel a little different and feel that this award should’ve gone to Kate Winslet….who even then showed so much promise and had such a beautiful aura and presence about her in Sense and Sensibility which was my choice for Best Picture among those nominees.

Nonetheless, I do want to give props to Joan Allen, who I feel stole Nixon and also Mare Winningham for her strong work in Georgia. Kathleen Quinlan was basically a filler nomination for the populist BP nominee (that I didn’t like) and while she was definitely wasn’t bad (her Oscar clip was fairly strong…the whole “He will be home by Friday!” scene), she was just….barely memorable.

I like Sorvino personally, but no contest–Winslet was perfectly sublime.
