Over the next few days, I’m going to be creating some “Lead or Supporting” polls to instigate some discussion in the post-awards season drought.
I watched Adaptation last night and I felt that while Cage was clearly lead and Cooper clearly supporting, Streep seemed to walk a fine line between the two. Her role seemed larger than a supporting role yet smaller than a leading one.
She could have gone Lead for Adaptation and it wouldn’t be fraud.
I’d say either, but I feel she was more Supporting
She had the screen time to be pushed as lead, but it was a supporting role.
I love this movie. Meryl was supporting. This was Cage’s movie, centered on his character’s struggle to write the screenplay, though Meryl’s character appears throughout the film when it cuts away from the Charlie Kaufman A storyline to her orchid quest. She’s fantastic in the role.
Cage, and his imaginary twin. My fave in this film is Chris Cooper, who gives one of the best supporting perfs ever, imho.
Meryl? She’s more supporting than lead, but either way would have been fine with me.
