While Daniel Day-Lewis seems to be a lock to win Best Actor this year for his role in Lincoln, nothing is ever a guarantee at the Oscars.

Who do you think is most likely to win in the event that Daniel Day-Lewis’s name is not announced as the Oscar recipient?

One of the reasons that I think Day-Lewis is unbeatable is because there is no clear alternative – you could make a case for any of the four other men being in second place.

Part of why I ask is to see, when forced to make an alternate decision, if votes really are as split as people are saying, or if one particular performer gets a clear stronger support than the rest.  Then again, this is a very unscientific poll, but it is still fun to see what people’s thoughts are! 🙂

I would say Bradley. Followed by Jackman.

Hugh Jackman. Showy role that was physically and emotionally heavy, has singing!, dying! scenes. Plus this could be his “coming out” role as in some could see he has now become a ‘serious’ actor from all the Wolverine films he had been doing. There’s also the given vote from gays, some Brits, and Broadway fans. Plus he has goodwill from the Academy after hosting the awards which was largely seen as very successful.

I still think DDL is winning this, but yes if they want a reason to not vote for him, Jackman might be their choice among the four.

I loved Bradley Cooper in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and would love to see a new winner instead of consistent repeats, regardless of how phenomenal their performances were. Sadly, DDL is a lock already so this is just wishful thinking. *sigh*

I completely agree. Though when did Hugh Jackman become a gay icon? Since you say he’ll the gay vote? Lol.

Joaquin Phoenix.. I’m not so sure Day-Lewis will lose. The Master was, very apparantly in the eyes of the Academy, an acting showcase which could bode well for either Phoenix or Hoffman (Adams’ race is as good as done).

Miss Frost, Jackman played a gay song and dance man in his Tony-winning performance..

^Thank you for clarifying that. I will look into the information on his Tony winning performance.

If anyone upsets it will be Cooper. The Academy clearly loves SLP and this could potentially turn out to be AGAIG yet again. He could even surprise at SAG tomorrow.

That said, Day-Lewis is comfortably out in fron at this point.
