Vote for best collective work from an actress noted by the academy in the time frame.  Cheated and let let the multiple years of Garbo, Gaynor & Shearer, mostly to put Gaynor in there to have at least 5 options.

I am a bit confused because all of these actresses
were NOT nominated for all of the films you cited…

Choosing Bette Davis is an easy call here.!!

Let’s see if I can figure this out…

Including Davis’ write in nod for OF HUMAN BONDAGE.

Also because of lack of space had to ammend title like Shearer’s R and J = Romeo and Juliet, etc.

Not sure where else there might be confusion… Please point out any mistakes I made.  Thanks!

    Irene Dunne.

Her perf in The Awful Truth is the best of the lot.

Bette is horrific in both Of Human Bondage and Dangerous. Obviously she wins the 40’s in a landslide.

<<< Agree on Dunne in THE AWFUL TRUTH (she was also prety delicious in Theodora Goes Wild & Love Affair)

But I don’t agree with your opinion of Of Human Bondage…thought she was terrific there, but DANGEROUS was a tad shade of bad.   My vote goes to Davis just a little over Dunne.

Shearer, IMO, was a terrible actress who was decent in Barretts and Marie Antoinette.
Garbo was always interesting, but only Camille & Ninotchka here are really great works.
Gaynor was great in the silent films, not interested in her A STAR IS BORN turn though.
