To celebrate the first Emmy smackdown going live last night, here’s a question I have for everyone: which Emmy telecast of the last 10 years yielded the most satisfying results? This has nothing to do with the quality of the show itself (or the host), but more with regards to the victors. Overall, when did the voters get it right in honoring the year’s best (be they actors, series, tv movies, writers, etc.,)?

2004. One of the greatest comedies and dramas of all time winning the top honors? Enough said.

2006: My two favourite shows (“24” and “The Office”) winning in their respective series categories.

Angels in America sweeping everything is pretty remarkable, as well.

2004 was my pick. It (and 2010) seemed to be probably the closest to getting just about all of the categories right. Even though Grammer and Pierce won their 4th Emmys for Frasier, I appreciate that it had at least been several years since their previous victories, and Frasier’s last season was a strong way of going out. I actually really appreciate James Spader’s win, too. He really shook up The Practice in a good way (though I wasn’t too keen on his multiple wins following this).

I think that the only win that I might switch would be Janney’s, and that only really bothers me because it was her 4th in 5 years.

2010, if for nothing else, the Jimmy Fallon “Born to Run” opening.  One of the best opening numbers ever.
