thoughts? My gut is to go with Argo, but I’m feeling a SLPB vibe….however Zero Dark Thirty could be a real spoiler if it’s as good as that 2nd trailer promises it to be

In NY, I think it would probably be “The Master”. I don’t believe “Argo” will win many critics awards, I think it will do better at the Globes and BFCA.

Also, shouldn’t “Amour” be there instead of “Anna Karenina”?

I think it’s between Pi and Master as well. Went with Pi.

Sorry folks it’s Les Miserables.  How do the others as good as they are with nothing truly different go up against a completely unique film that people have been waiting to see for a quarter of a century?

I still think Les Miz will win best picture, but not here.

Btw, I take umbrage with your oft repeated assuration that we’ve all been sittin’ ’round waitin’ for a quarter of a century for this movie. You’ve got to be kidding me, and on so many levels.

I don’t have all that much respect for these awards — they tend to go with predictable choices lately.

Absolutely.  In fact, I have a hunch that, if the NYFCC doesn’t go with “Life of Pi,” they’ll pick “Amour” for Best Picture.

^ I could see that happening as well, Helmetz. It’ll be interesting to see what happens, but i’m also expecting “Amour” to win big in one of the major critics circles.
