I just have a question about Cannes. I’ve always heard that the Palme D’or and the acting prizes can’t go to the same film. This is why Riva couldn’t win Best Actress, and probably why the Palme was given to the BITWC actresses because either one or both would have won the award otherwise. But I just say that Dancer in the Dark(2000) won not only the Palme D’or, but also the best actress prize for Bjork (undescribably deserving).
So is this a recent rule? Or is there a way for the committee to make an exception if they really really want to? And just for interest, are there many other times that it happened?
