I am very confused as to where A:OC will be placed at the Golden Globes. To me, the film seems like a dark comedy, but many feel like it is a drama.
Just because there are funny lines doesn’t make it a comedy (please watch any of Showtime’s “comedy” series for proof). I have seen the show on Broadway multiple times and have wrote an analysis of the play for a literature class. It is total, heavy drama. The way the characters are written, the way it is paced and even the way that the stage show was directed radiates drama. Obviously the pacing and direction could be more comesiy tilted for the film, but based on the source material (the only definite indicator we have at this time) it is a drama.
My mother, who I saw the show with once, agrees.
American Beauty was also classified as a dramedy. but it placed itself in the Drama categories, and went on to win the Golden Globe for Best Picture-Drama.
I’ve asked the same and a user that has seen the movie in the test screening said it’s undoubtly a drama.
But Harvey might push it into C/M if the Drama lineup is too strong.
There are a lot of C/M nominees the last years that did not belong in the category. But whatever.
