Just watched this film and found out all the cast was nominated. Have no virtual idea why Nancy Kelly was nominated, but I am astounded to how both McCormack and Heckart lost supporting actress. Both should’ve won IMO. Who was your favorite from The Bad Seed?

Nancy Kelly gives one of the worst nominated performance of all time.

Eileen Heckart gives one of the best.

I agree with you on Heckart, Clyde.

I’m one of the few people who thinks Nancy Kelly is great.

But the winner is Eileen Heckart.  One of the greatest nominees of all time.

Nancy kelly recreated her stage role i think..and the director and she forgot
that this was a film..her performance was so over the top and hammy that
i found myself laughing  throught the entire film,,,,her “OH RHODA” delivery
was hysterical…..MCCormack was terrific and Heckhart was the best of course
and if anyone deserved the Oscar..it wouldve been Heckhart….She needed to wait
until 1972 when she virtually did nothing in Butterflies
are Free  to get her consolation oscar…

I definitely would give it to Eileen Heckart.

McCormack was good, and I don’t think Nancy Kelly was that horrible but yes she needed to be pulled back a few notches.

McCormack was great, but Kelly shouldn’t have even been nominated. Horrid performance.

Heckart was robbed the win! Absoultely stellar performance! She wouldn’t have won a consolation prize with the awful Butterflies Are Free. Ugh.

Heckart ranged from hysterically funny to brilliantly tragic in just a couple of scenes.  Oscar failed to recognize this.
