I’m starting a new poll series battling it out with actors and actresses that have played the same role but in different movies so playing the younger version of the main character in the same more would not count for example Judi Dench and Kate Winslet in Iris would not count in this series.
First up, the battle of the Nelsen Mandelas.
Morgan Freeman played Nelsen Mandela in 2009’s Invictus and played Mandela in his later years as the President of South Africa. He earn an Oscar, Golden Globe, and SAG nomination for Best Actor.
Idris Elba played Nelsen Mandela in 2013’s Madela: Long Walk to Freedom and played Mandela in his younger years into his older years pre election time. He earned a Golden Globe nomiantion.
So who did it better? Sound off
I admire both performances very much. Personally as a movie I admire Long Walk to Freedom more than Invictus but I’m swinging more to Morgan Freeman in terms of performance though Elba was incredible and I wish he was not up against such a strong Best Actor field in 2013 because it truly deserved nominations more than the Globe
Both great, but my vote will always be with Freeman. It was one of those rare times where an actor disappeared so fully into the role that I forgot who I was watching. If he hadn’t already won, he would have absolutely swept past Jeff ‘overdue Oscar’ Bridges, as I feel he should have, going by performance alone.

Both awesome in the role but Freeman had that extra ummph as Mandela in my opinion.
