Mad Men has a excellent cast, I think we can all agree, but who is the one that stand out in the series for you? If I didn’t listed your favorite regular (or ex-regular) actor from the cast, please let us know.January 2, 2013 at 10:56 pm #541506
They’ve all had their moments. Elisabeth Moss has been the most consistent. She’s never disappointed or let the sometimes overly symbolic dialogue undermine her.January 3, 2013 at 2:16 am #541507
For Your Consideration: Jon HammJanuary 3, 2013 at 2:43 am #541508
Wow there are ‘actors’ in Mad Men???
Hmmm…well I do like Robert Morse’s work in everything I’ve seen him in, which doesnt include Mad Men.Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1)ParticipantJanuary 3, 2013 at 4:28 am #541509
I chose Christina Hendricks because her character has grown the most, and she is beliveable through every part of it. Look at “The Other Woman”, and see her performance in that episode. It’s heartbreaking.January 3, 2013 at 7:21 am #541510
Moss was an easy chose for me. Slattery’s role doesn’t have enough weight. Hamm, Hendricks, Kartheiser and particularly Jones have all had some awkward, unconvincing moments, and each has suffered through some wanting storylines. Moss’ character has had the biggest, most satisfying transformation over the seasons, yet she has never been less than grounded and engaging.January 3, 2013 at 8:14 am #541511
Moss is my fav. I think Christina is the one that has grown the most and I can’t wait to see how much more she can grow!January 3, 2013 at 8:45 am #541512
Jon Hamm gets my vote.January 3, 2013 at 8:29 pm #541513
I also vote for Moss, such a talented actress that created a very impressive character.January 4, 2013 at 10:03 am #541514
Hamm and Slattery are hard to fault. Moss is great now, but I don’t think she was at the beginning. But I gave it to Vincent Kartheiser. He has disappeared into this character so much that I think he is a dick and it’s sort of jarring seeing him in anything else. Shout-outs to Bryan Batt and Michael Gladis too.January 4, 2013 at 10:44 am #541515
Then you need to go back and watch season one. Peggy was awkward and lacking in confidence in the gist of season one. Hamm was the one that took about a half of a season to settle in. Moss was just as strong playing that as she is playing the grown-up, formidible Peggy now. Despite what someone thinks about his performance, Kartheiser just hasn’t done enough to deserve being deemed the best.January 4, 2013 at 10:55 am #541516
I’ve seen Season 1 about four times. I understand the character changed, but even her vulnerable moments she sold far better after Season 1, she’s similarly flat in her pre-Mad Men roles that I’ve seen. I agree about Hamm too.
I don’t see how Kartheiser “hasn’t done enough to deserve being deemed the best”. The top 6 poll options have had over 200 scenes each in these roles, including at least six or seven showcase hours for each of them, more total material than the stars of any film. It’s definitely enough to form an opinion on each of them as an actor and rank them accordingly. Peggy hasn’t been significantly more prominent than Pete either, in fact their screentime must be almost equal; we definitely got more Pete than her in seasons 1 and 3, more Peggy in season 4, etc. Her character has changed more but that doesn’t automatically exclude someone playing a more static character if he’s doing it really well. He certainly has been asked to play the character a lot of different ways and pulled it off, if you contrast “Signal 30”, “The Rejected”, “Souvenir”, “Flight 1”, “Lady Lazarus”, etc.January 4, 2013 at 11:26 am #541517

I´m just starting season 2 (I know…I´m kinda late) and so far I would say 1.Moss 2.Hamm 3.Hendricks….or maybe Kartheiser
You could also do a BEST CHARACTER thread cause I think opinions (at least mine) would really change between the performer and the character itself (how its written)…January 4, 2013 at 11:30 am #541518
Season one, five and to a lesser extent two are the only seasons Vincent has had somewhat of a story arc. Peggy has had seasons where she’s been more prominent than others, but Pete has had long stretches, even in seasons one, two and five where he’s had no impact. He was a non-entity in seasons three and four with the exception of one or two episodes. I also think since season three his performance has gotten a lil too cutesy and stylized for its own good. Moss wasn’t asked to do too much in season one but be self-conscious, but the quiet ambition was there from the beginning, and she played it well. Her work in “Babylon” was the turning point. With significantly less screen time than Hamm and Jones she nearly stole season two, definitely had the best scene of the season. Season three till now she’s easily imo been the strongest castmember. I also take into account the writing for the characters. Unlike everyone else, the writers have never let Peggy down. The show always has more gravity, immediacy and feel more honest when her presence is felt.
