It’s been over a decade since Halle Berry made history by winning her atrociously undeserved Oscar for Monster’s Ball and became the first black actress to win Best Actress, a title that Whoopi Goldberg should hold for The Color Purple (a rank that Pam Grier should have joined for Jackie Brown).

Who will be the next one? I’ve included my personal favorite black actresses in the poll, but there are obviously way more than ten possibilities.

From the list, Kerry and Lupita are the most popular and therefore the most likely.

Would love to see Thandie get a great leading role after her terrific work in Beloved and Crash.

Definitely Viola Davis as she deserved to win more than Meryl for her work in The Help. She just raises the bar with her performances and has a lot of respect from fellow actors and the industry.

I wouldn’t mind my ex wife Halle to win again. Atleast another nomination. She is super talented, just get stuck with bad films.

Laverne Cox is a trans person not a black woman. That is so insulting to include this person alongside biological black women. If you want to start a poll or a thread about who will be the first trans person to be nominated for an Oscar so be it. But to carry on like Cox is just one of the girls. No this person’s struggle is not the struggle of non-white actresses. Just that of a trans person.

Her next nomination is in supporting for the James Brown biopic.

The insulting thing around here is this disgusting post.

Laverne Cox is black, and she is a woman. Therefore, she is a black woman and a “non-white” actress. How is it insulting? And to whom?

Smart money is on Viola Davis but if Kerry Washington gets an awesome role she could do it.

Viola Davis is most likely to be the next black actress to win… but I wouldn’t be surprised if she got it for a supporting role.

Kerry Washington’s got some real buzz, I bet she could pull off a lead win.

Nyong’o will probably (hopefully) get one at some point, but they might not be willing to reawrd her again so soon.

Viola Davis will probably get it for Fences in 2015. I don’t know if that is the next time it will happen, but if she is good (like always) it should be like Blanchett this year.

As extremely unlikely as it is, I would love to see Patina Miller win SOMEDAY. She has been killing it on Broadway lately and once she slays another few shows their she could definitely make the transition.
