Two of Hollywood’s biggest leading men, both well liked within the Academy, but both have yet to win.

So, who is going to get to that stage first? And why?

Both stand a chance at the next Oscars; Cooper for Joy, and DiCaprio for The Revenant.

Any ideas for other match-ups along this idea are also welcome.

I have a feeling that Dicaprio will win at 50s or 60s like Paul Newman, Al Pacino. They snubbed him several times. Cooper, however, seems to be Academy darling for being nominated three consecutive times. It would be interesting to see these two good buddies nominated for the same category, see how they campaign against each other

I went with Bradley Cooper. He is obviously well-liked since he has 4 nominations in a row with a possible fifth for Joy. So those nominations may be building up to a win in the future.

    Possible suggestions for next poll:
    Michael Fassbender vs. Benedict Cumberbatch

    Jessica Chastain vs. Amy Adams

    Glenn Close vs. Annette Bening

    Edward Norton vs. Mark Ruffalo

    Ralph Fiennes vs. Gary Oldman
    Laura Linney vs. Joan Allen
    Keira Knightley vs. Felicity Jones

    Michelle Williams vs. Rooney Mara

Definitely Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s just 40 and overdue and he is one of the best actors in Hollywood. No way The Academy is going to wait another ten years to give him the award, when he constantly gives great performances. I have a feeling he’ll win for The Crowded Room, although I’m rooting for The Revenant.

That’s a bit much for Cooper. He’s doing good, but he’s nowhere near Hollywood’s biggest leading men. Dicaprio, however, needs to win ASAP or I will be extremely mad.

For the love of all that is good, it better be DiCaprio.

I believe that I read Cooper would be considered a Supporting Actor. So they both COULD win.

I would love to see Leo win first because he deserves it considering he’s been snubbed of both wins AND nominations so many times. Unfortunately, I think Cooper will win first. The Academy LOVES him! Every chance they get to nominate him they take it and he’s been nominated three years in a row including twice in one year if you count his BP nomination for American Sniper as producer. I think Cooper is a good actor with great performances, but Leonardo DiCaprio is arguably one of the greatest actors of all time. He maybe a little young for that phrase to be used, but I think it’s appropriate. He’s unbelievable and his performances are regularly revelations (Titanic-snubbed, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Catch Me if You Can-snubbed, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, Shutter Island-snubbed, J. Edgar-snubbed, Django Unchained-snubbed) and the list goes on and on!

I voted for Cooper. Better actor hands down.

Leo – one of the greatest actors of all time? Laughable. I love his devotion to acting, his choices and so on, but let’s face it, there is a lot missing in his acting. I actually only thought he was really great Catch Me if you Can and good in Wolf.

You lost me after this sentence. Let’s hope you wrote something interesting in the next two sentences. Although, I doubt it, considering your first one. Bless ya!

I actually come here for script reviews and debate on new movies, but am considering not coming here again, cuz it’s full of inarticulate Leo fanboys. Yeah, he’s gonna win an oscar real soon. Dream on. He doesn’t have it OK? It’s widely regarded.

I’m not a Leo fanboy. I only think he’s the best male actor, that’s all. His filmography is full with worthy projects. You can dislike him. It’s your own personal decision.

Also, I don’t care if Leo wins the Oscar or not. He will still be a better actor than most acting winners. And definitely better than Bradley Cooper who’s been in a few good projects, but is nowhere near that standout of an actor.

I hope that Leo wins first, though I can’t see The Revenant being the film that will win him the Oscar.

Both good actors, and both have been nominated for their best performances. The big difference in terms of being overdue is that DiCaprio has been around for so many years, always doing quality work. Cooper has been hit and miss, and has taken on plenty of bad projects and given mediocre performances. Regardless, it will come down to the performance they give, and the performance that it will be against.
