Only 9 in history and no multiple entrants! Who’s your pick?

No one cares. For me it’s about the performance and not the colour. Sad that you are about to share stupid “race polls”.

You’re the only one bringing up the term ‘race’. It’s the same if someone asked ‘what is your favorite performance by a European Actress’. I guess you wouldn’t have a problem with that…

Its not a negative poll. Just a poll about nominated performances. Id say in order…

    Whoopi
    Halle
    Cicely
    Angela
    Diana
    Dorothy
    Diahann
    .
    .
    .
    Gabourey
    Viola

The best performance that Ive seen from an African American actress would be Pam Grier in Jackie Brown (The Godmother)

I guess that for me it’s all about color and “race polls”. Yikes.

Vincelette needs to shut the hell up. Damn must he have to comment on any mention of race lol. Anyways back to the poll, here’s how I would rank the performances.

    1. Whoopi Goldberg- The Color Purple
    2. Angela Bassett- What’s Love Got to Do With It
    3. Cicely Tyson- Sounder
    4. Halle Berry- Monster’s Ball
    5. Diana Ross- Lady Sings the Blues
    6. Dorothy Dandridge- Carmen Jones
    7. Viola Davis- The Help
    8. Diahann Carroll- Claudine
    9. Gabourey Sidibe- Precious

Don’t talk to me like this Try Again.

I said an opinion. Every week there is a “who’s the best…among african-american actresses or actors, or winners…or something else…”.

    I’m tired of it!

There is no such a thing as “black performance or white performance”. Also, there is no such a thing as “white or black Academy Awards”. If somebody would make a poll about “who was the best WHITE Oscar winner of the last decade everybody would bitching about it, so it doesn’t work in the opposite way, huh?

We might as well add Quvenzhane to this list since she’ll be winning best actress next year!

The way the question is worded, THERE IS ONLY ONE ANSWER.  The others were nominated; only Halle won.  Poll closed!

(Edit:  Quvenzhane will be nommed, but without the SAGs she can’t win.  The only question this year is whether Jennifer Lawrence is actually winning for Silver Linings Playbook, as her Oscar will read, or The Hunger Games.)

Completely agree with you! Maybe someone should start a poll on here about our favorite white actresses/actors.

I think Jennifer Lawrence might take it though. Plus, I wonder if they’re really going to nominate Quvenzhane. She’s also really young which might work against her.

IMO Cicely Tyson stands tall above the rest, but are all great or admirable performances.  The only two I personally would not have nominated are Bassett & Berry.  Claudia McNeil in A RAISIN IN THE SUN,  Pam Grier in JACKIE BROWN and Alfre Woodard in PASSION FISH (even though some would say is supporting, I say it could go either way) were terrible oversights.

    1. Cicely Tyson
    2. Diana Ross
    3. Whoopi Goldberg
    4. Viola Davis
    5. Gabourey Sidibe
    6. Dorothy Dandridge
    7. Diahann Carroll
    8. Angela Bassett
    9. Halle Berry
