Here’s the list of this season’s contestants (along with their pro partners):

    Elizabeth Berkley and Valentin Chmerkovskiy
    Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff
    Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd
    Bill Engvall and Emma Slater
    Valerie Harper and Tristan MacManus
    Keyshawn Johnson and Sharna Burgess
    Christina Milian and Mark Ballas
    Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein
    Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Sasha Farber
    Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani
    Amber Riley and Derek Hough

I must say this is the best looking cast I’ve seen in years. ABC actually managed to find some interesting people here. I haven’t been watching for the last two seasons but I might give this season a try. There’s no one I dislike here. And I’m already going to root for Elizabeth and Val. Saw her on stage in “Hurlyburly” couple years ago and thought she was amazing. Such an underrated actress. Damn you, “Showgirls”! Btw, I’m huge fan of this camp classic. I’m absolutely lovin’ it!  Heard Val was robbed last season with Zendaya so here’s hoping he’s gonna get his due this season.

What do you think of this cast, guys?

I really like this cast and all of the pairings. This is just my initial opinion of the pairings and celebs:

Elizabeth and Val: This is a great choice and pairing. This guy has a shot at the mirror ball trophy this season.
Corbin and Karina: Such a cool pairing. He is going to be one to watch out for.
Brant and Peta: Loved Peta in every pairng except for whenshe had Sean but this guy seems like he is going to be decent.
Bill and Emma: Like him but love her.
Valerie and Tristan: Such an inspiration and Tristan seems to be enjoying it so far. By far the pairing that I am most excited to see in action.
Keyshawn and Sharna: Something tells me that he isn’t as good as I hope he will be but she did wonders with Andy.
    Christina and Mark: Another contender.
Bill Nye and Tyne: I have no clue who she is but my guess is they wanted Lindsay and Gleb in the troupe so that explains that. He should be amusing.
Jack and Cheryl: Interesting pairing but overall not loving his casting on the show cuz this might be a trainwreck.
Snooki and Sasha: Yeah interesting choice. Clearly Mark would have been ideal but even if she is good I still think she is going to get eliminated pretty quickly.
Leah and Tony: So far I have high hopes for this pairing.
Amber and Derek: Love her and she can legit win thisbased on Gleeks alone but someting tells me she is going to be an early frontrunner.

    I’m concerned about Rhoda’s health.
Well, Glee stopped caring about Mercedes quite awhile ago, so I guess she has to do something to try to be relevant.

I’m rooting for Brant Daugherty, who appears way less than he should on Pretty Little Liars, which has a dearth of good male characters.

I was thinking about this yesterday: every season there is always a “ringer” but this season there are two (maybe three counting Snooki). Elizabeth has training and so does Corbin.

    Such a small cast…

The cast isn’t that bad. The problem here continues to be Tristan. I know Valerie will get the token “pity votes” once the show (not her) milks her story in every single episode she manages to stay in, plus the huge popularity of Rhoda will play a big part since most of the people watching know who she is, but common!!! Is it really necessary for Tristan to always be stuck with the old lady? And if not, the one that has to have an injury and retire the competition? I could handle a season full of the Jersey Shore and Real Housewives castmembers if only they would give Tristan a fair chance.

They have this Sasha guy who is so annoying and is always on the troupe but never a real pro with the celebrities, can’t they give him the token old lady and leave Tristan with somebody else like Leah Remini? Or even Snooki?

The best couple here seems to be Elizabeth and Val, they’re really giving Val some great celebrities and that’s who I’m rooting for this year. He should’ve won last season with Zendaya. It’s pretty clear that Corbin and Karina are the biggest competition here. And of course Mark gets Christina Milian who has danced before I asume in her videos and stuff, so she will also be great competition. I can’t see any other couple entering the Top 3.

I think they wanted to give Snooki to Mark, they would’ve been funny together, but maybe they said “you know, he had Bristol twice plus Kim Kardashian, Kristen Cavallari, let’s not do this to him again…”

Derek and Amber also have a shot but I don’t see it being as huge as the other three couples.

Peta is a killer dancer and choreographer so it all depends on this Brant kid. And let’s see what Leah can do. I don’t see her being that great but you never know.

The science guy plus a new dancer can’t mean anything else but “first to be voted off”. Same for Bill Engvall.

agreed on the Bills. Bill the comedian will proably be first to go but I have a feeling Snooki might go in week 2 if she is as bad as the other guy from jersey Shore was and then Bill Nye in week 3.

    Forgot to mention/ask.

Is Christina off The Voice? Has her useless job finally been eliminated from the show? Or is she counting on being eliminated before the live shows of The Voice start?

Yes, she’s off the show. They’ll probably just replace her filler job with someone else.

Here’s my rankings after the first week:

     1.
    Amber/Derek
She killed it tonight. That’s how you come out with a bang. Dances I look forward
    from her: Salsa, Samba.

    2.   2    Corbin/Karina
Before Amber I thought he had the best dance. He was my favorite Contemporary
dance of the season. Dances to look forward: Jive & Quickstep.

    3.     3  Elizabeth/Val
Elizabeth has great musicality. She’s also great at bringing the emotion to her
performance. Dances I look forward from her: Argentine Tango & Rumba.

    4.   4    Christina/Mark
Surprise how stiff she was. She has to get those nerves together or else she
could be the “shocking” elimination. She has to make sure that she stands out.

    5.     5  Snooki/Sasha
She wasn’t horrible like the Situation. She wasn’t too bad. She could last a
    lot longer than expected.

    6.      6 Jack/Cheryl
Much better than I expected. However, I think he was a bit overscored imo. He
may be the underdog that makes it farther than expected.

    7.       7Brant/Peta
Great Peta goes with the sexual innuendo again. Sorry but he was a little stiff
    and overscored as well.

    8.     8  Leah/Tony
Surprised by her performance. I thought she would be horrible. I think she’ll
be able to last a few weeks.

    9.       9Valerie/Tristan
    Hard to rank her.

    10.   10Bill E./
    Emma
    – Wasn’t too bad. He may have enough fans to save him from being the
    first eliminated.

    11.   11Keyshawn/Sharna
Whelp, an athlete won’t make it to the finals. He’s co-workers were right, he’s
    going home soon.

    12.  12  Bill Nye/
    Tyne
    – That was a hot mess lol. I think he’s going to not be the first to go
    home.

I kinda liked them all last night so I’ll give my thoughts on each

    Amber/Derek
Amazing Job! Three “9”s was a surprise. The dances I want to see from her are: Samba, Jive, and Paso.

      Corbin/Karina
Another great one. His Jive and tango should be killer.
     Elizabeth/Val
Loved it. Cannot wait for her jive, paso, tango, and samba.

     Christina/Mark
Good Job. I want to see her foxtrot.
     Snooki/Sasha
Girl can dance. Cannot wait to see her jive, samba, and oddly contemporary.

     Jack/Cheryl
My fav of the night. Cannot wait to see all of his dances.
     Brant/Peta
Another surprise. His quicketep shuld be killer.

    Leah/Tony
Girl can dance. Her cha cha should be fun.

    Valerie/Tristan
A natural. I really wanna see her waltz.

    Bill E./
    Emma
    – So funny and he is a decent dancer. I wanna see him quickstep.

    Keyshawn/Sharna
He is a trooper and is trying. I don’t think we will see his second dance.

      Bill Nye/
    Tyne
    – This was a trainwreck but so was Jerry Springer and Cloris Leachman. I can’t wait to see him jive.

This is gonna be the best season this show  has ever had. I absolutely loved the premiere! Loved all the pairs. Amber was on fire tonight! Didn’t see this coming! Oh, and Elizabeth was underscored. It was masterclass in dancing but I know this show, I know how it works. She’s gonna be underscored just like Nicole Scherzinger. Cannot wait to see next episode! Great job, DwtS producers!

Very good premiere. I wish the opening had a bit better rehearsal or direction because had it been done right, it would’ve been pretty damn awesome. It’s sad how Brooke’s job got cut in half without any need to so.

Although not quite sad as the new girls getting stuck with these men. I wish they would find better celebrities for the new cast members. But at least there’s always hope for a second Peta. Gone first in her debut season, wins the following one. The tradition of Tristan and the Old Lady remains a bigger problem though.

I’m in a very MTM/Rhoda place right now, having just finished all 7 seasons of MTM last week and reading a book about the show now, so I’m glad that Valerie did a good job, but she should go fourth and I hope that ABC’s extreme milking of her story (I knew it would go over the top right away) doesn’t mean somebody else more deserving gets to go home before her. The Bills and the football guy need to go away fast. Then either Valerie or Jack.

I was surprised by pretty much everybody, I don’t understand why they needed to go with the contemporary right away, it would’ve been much more exciting to go with the latin dances first or a jive, but all the contemporaries did a great job with Christina being the least successful.

I’m pissed that Amber is so good because she’s with Derek and I can’t stand the guy, if she were with somebody else I would be more excited for her. She was insanely good. Elizabeth was great with Val, Corbin was also great. Snooki was a surprise, I think she can do better and was definitely over scored, but it’s nice to see her like this.

It bears note, if Elizabeth doesn’t do a foxtrot or quick step to “I’m So Excited” there should be hell to pay!

Could Peta have come across as anymore desperate and awkward last night?

    “So are you single?…I’m single!”

    What a fool.

Good premeire.  Casting is so important for me to give an F.  I like the cast this year.  My guess for the first boot is either Bill the comedian or Keyshawn Johnson who has a Metta World Peace vibe to me.

I also cannot understand the judges….at all.

Jessie Spano’s dance was a masterclass and she gets a 24?

If she was with Derek Hough they’d have given her 9’s.
