This is on ABC’s announced schedule for next Spring:
“A fresh new take on an established favorite, “Dancing with the Stars Junior” will pair celebrity kids and kids of celebrities with professional junior ballroom dancers to perform choreographed routines which will be judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts, to be announced at a later date.”
Did they learn nothing from So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation?
Actually, maybe they did; make sure the dancers are people the audience may be familiar with. I wonder how many of “the kids from Stranger Things” and “the kids from black’ish” will be involved.
Oh, and lesson #2: when choosing the “professional junior ballroom dancers”, remember that there were other dancers on Dance Moms besides Maddie Ziegler. Then again, why do I have the feeling that, by some incredible coincidence, all of them have appeared as contestants on America’s Got Talent in the past?
Just to clarify: the “adults” version of the show will still be on, in the fallMay 16, 2017 at 6:27 pm #1202094934
And of course contestants will include Jack and the other twin on Blackish, Aubrey LastName-SecondLastName from Modern Family, Adam Goldberg or Dave Kim from The Goldbergs, and things like that.May 17, 2017 at 6:04 am #1202095249
I was trying to think of other shows that had kids that could be on the show (e.g. Hudson Yang (Eddie) from Fresh Off the Boat), when I thought of something: how many non-ABC series have “kid characters”? ABC is loaded with family sitcoms, but I don’t remember any kids being in regular roles on, say, The Big Bang Theory, or Superstore, or Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
As for “kids of celebrities,” there’s only one show I can think of (well, besides “red carpet pre-shows”) where someone “related to” a celebrity should be involved – and I am a little surprised that nobody has brought it back yet: TattleTales.May 18, 2017 at 7:17 am #1202096132
I have to asume there are plenty of kids on Freeform. That’s what ABC Family is called now right?May 18, 2017 at 12:03 pm #1202096430

Don’t forget about Disney Channel.
I just wonder who Disney thinks is the target audience. I can see kids wanting to see stars from their favorite shows, but who else? “Dance fans” probably won’t be interested, any more than they were interested in SYTYCD The Next Generation. Adults won’t really care who most of these kids are – especially the “children of celebrities.” This show might be a better fit on Disney Channel (I think even Freeform would skew too old).
