Ads are starting to air! This season there’s a few changes:

The judges now have a golden buzzer which will automatically save an act from elimination. However, they can only use this buzzer once throughout the entire season (Howie Mandel said in an interview he used his already on a rap duo).

Auditions are being limited to NY and LA this year. They were held at Madison Square Garden in April 3-6 and currently through the 26th at the Dolby Theater.

Replacing Vegas Week is Boot Camp, which will take place in New York May 14-17 in front of a live audience. Details are still developing.

The show is going back to a top 48 instead of 60.

You beat me to it. I was going to make one of these. I am very excited for this season (though I wish H. Stern was more judgmental) and hope GoldDerby will make predictions of the live shows when they come.

Regarding the judges, Howard and Heidi are the most consistently wisest judges. Last year I only questioned them a few times. Mel B was good until she used her wild card on Tone the Chiefrocca, I’m very iffy on who she’ll use the golden buzzer on. I’m holding out hope Howie makes wise desicions, but this is Howie we’re talking about here. At least he turned on Tone and Tummy Talk in the live rounds last year.

Will post my opinions about the auditions that night or the next day.

The Today Show just announced Today’s Got Talent, which is very similar to the old YouTube auditions. The top 3 finalists will perform live on Today, and the winner is fast tracked to the Top 48. Let’s see how this turns out.

Just watched first audition episode: Here are some acts that stood out.

    • That first kid Adrian is a super mad pianist. I really like him.
    • Mike Greenstein at 93 pulling that car with his teeth. Unbelievable talent.
    • Acte II was not bad, my mom seemed to enjoy them a lot, but I think we’ve heard that stuff before.
    • Blue Journey’s female dancer was slightly off and it kinda put me out of the experience, but their act was well put together, especially for having met only four days prior.
    • I originally didn’t get Dustin’s Dojo, but at the end I found myself liking them. Howard’s Golden Buzzer selection.
    • Nick Cannon’s prank was awesome and completely unexpected.
    • Jaycob Curlee’s backstory made me baul like a baby, his voice I don’t think was extraordinary, but glad he made it through.

I only liked three of the people they put through last night: the piano kid, Blue Journey, and Acte II. I really didn’t get why the karate people went through but Howard seemed to like them. The lasts inge was kinda blah to me. The guy who pulled the car with his teeth….cool but the winner gets to headline a Vegas show and I don’t know if that screams headliner to me.

Thoughts and predictions on the acts that were fully shown:

Adrian Romoff- The first thing he played was hard to tell what he was doing, but the second time was much better. I don’t think he’ll make it pass Boot Camp week.
Dan Naturman- Great personality, but I only got a few chuckles. Depending on what comedy acts we have and what he does in Boot Camp I don’t see him making it past Boot Camp either.
Rokardy- This was amazing, will certainly be rooting for this guy. I get the feeling they’ll pass Boot Camp and go straight to the Top 48, but we’ve seen constantly that people don’t vote on danger acts.
Donnie Valentine- Hilariously bad. Thank God all 4 judges X’ed him.
Mike Greenstein- I have a feeling something or someone was helping him pull the car, but impressive nontheless. Same fate as I said for Rokardy.
Acte II- Pretty good duet. If Forte was any indication last year they could be in contention for the win, but I think they’ll still have to be in Boot Camp.
Dustin’s Dojo- Funny act, but I don’t think it was worth using the Gold Buzzer on. I think they’ll get into the Top 48, but barely.
Blue Journey- This was great, almost Kenichi Ebina-like. Certainly in contention for the win and I think they’ll advance straight to the Top 48.
Nick’s Mime- Laughed my ass off at the reveal. Sort of saw it coming, but funny nonetheless.
Jaycob Curlee- Just an ok voice, but the story is going to be a persuading factor in Boot Camp week.

Overall, a solid night of acts. Can’t wait to see what next week brings!

You, I, and Howard agreed that there was just something “questionable” about Adrian’s version of Flight of the Bumblebee.  I wonder how well he can play a real piano,

My reaction to Donnie was, “There’s somebody in there trying to get a song out, but the problem is, there’s somebody else in there who has no idea what he’s doing who’s making it a duet.”

I don’t doubt that what Mike did was legitimate (Jack LaLanne used to do things like that), as I think it would be too easy to reveal a gimmick that would tarnish not only his name, but his family’s.  As for “helping him pull the car”, I think that, at the start, there was some bar or block on the ground that he was pressing against with his feet for a little added support to get the car moving, which is the hardest part; it is lifted away once the car is in motion.

By Howard using the Golden Buzzer, they are automatically put through to the Top 48. They don’t have to go through Boot Camp.

This golden buzzer is going to be problamatic. I can just imagine what Howie is going to use it for.

In my defense, there needs to be more silly acts on AGT. It makes the show more interesting.
