It was a nice premiere episode with no real standout and absolutely zero memorable outfits. Nobody deserved to win the first challenge, the “best” people weren’t even in the top 3. At least they found some nice characters in those annoying twins and they delivered on the very first episode. Good to see the cast not falling for them at all.
This Chacha guy shouldn’t have even been allowed to audition, this result was obvious from the start even if the girl with the grey dress had plenty of reasons to think she would be going home. At least the scrunchie dress was fun to see from an entertainment point of view while that grey thing and its designer were forgettable throughout the episode.
Nice decision with the variety of models although I asume “the model paired with the winning designer…” aspect is gone now since they’re switching them every week.
Finally, I love the running joke of Doubtful/Unsure Dress = “well….she’s going to the Billboard Music Awards!”. The lowest of the award shows, the best excuse that year after year they can find to maybe sort of save your ugly dress. When you design something that you can’t even sell as a VMA or Grammy dress, you should just go. I don’t know how that guy managed to make that ugly dress pass as a top design of the week.
Glad the show is finally back.August 20, 2017 at 9:07 am #1202190101
Ok so I finally watched this and I can easily single out the ones I hate this season but the rest all seem pretty good. Batani-Khalfani is easily my fav though.August 20, 2017 at 2:08 pm #1202190228
Good start to the season. I’m liking the new twist of inclusiveness in models’ sizes. That seemed like something in the works since Ashley’s season, so good going there. I was worried that the size 22 was going to be “problematic” for the menswear designer, but he surprisingly pulled through something wearable and fashion-forward. Can you imagine the level of whining Cornelius would have done with her? I’m afraid we’re going to see some designers have that level of meltdown over being assigned anyone over a size 2. I like the random designer/model pairings, the models’ confessionals, the behind-the-scenes production shots, and anonymous runways. Decent winner, but yeah, I would have been one of those “I hate large prints” guys. #SorryNotSorry. I think the only true red-carpet is the Oscars, and Kenya’s mermaid dress personified that the best. Both Batani’s and ChaCha’s asses should have been sent home for their poor designs, but the previews spoiled that for me since Batani will supposedly be involved in a scandalous plagiarism incident of some sort this season. Thanks, shitty Lifetime promotions department! They’re gonna gun for the twins as sure as anything, I’m guessing. Not sure why they cast the both of them. I do like the clear diversity of this roster though. This promises to be a season full of shenanigans, which I’m absolutely here for. Season 16!August 21, 2017 at 8:19 am #1202190868
My thoughts on the show
Chacha – God that Dress was ugly and he was weird to watch. He didn’t seem to have any skills or real talent in the actual construction department.
Kenya – Winner for me this week… her dress was gorgeous and I just loved her style and personality also.
Deyonte – looked like it was made very well, but that fabric for me was too much . it looked very old lady and she seemed like an old bridesmaid.
Brandon- Love the look and the styling. he needs to stop being so negative because his outfit was pretty chic.
Batini – I mean really …. That dress was bad … she was way more stunning that that dress. I do think she will do well in the show even with this misstep.
Shawn – Gosh her and her sister were irritating as hell and that llook was silly and cheap .. it looked like a long tank top and cheap shorts made out of a space blanket . very underwhelming.
Margarita – gorgeous dress , didn’t need the pink tulle at the top
Kentaro – didn’t love the look , lil weird for me
Aaron – LOVED those pants they were to die for .
Amy – Good look but what red carpet was she going to be on ? she may struggle with taste issues.
Ayana – Stunning …. Should have left off the flowers and it would have been more stunning.
Claire – Boring
Kentaro- Gorgeous .. don’t know what red carpet.
Kudzani – So weird , im not sure how I feel.
Michael – Ugly
Samantha – Basic and Boring
Sentell – Hands down the worst of the night , I don’t know why he wasn’t in the bottom . it was a hot fucking mess.
Prediction for winner – Kenya
Next home – Sentell

Between Sentell and Shawn, yeah, it was totally Sentell’s time to go home. Having the FaceTime with his new husband was also an editing giveaway, like the brief humanizing moment in the spotlight before the exit. Loved this unconventional materials challenge with the recycling! The winning team had some inspired runway looks. I would have chosen Kenya’s gorgeous newspaper dress over Ayana’s hodgepodge dress that the judges couldn’t stop gushing about. Major props to Brandon for crafting the homemade fabric that was the unifying force amongst the entire mini-collection! As I predicted before, everyone’s gunning for the twins as sure as anything. It’s also clear that Claire is the better designer over Shawn, so breaking them up certainly isn’t the end of the world. Someone needed to slap Shawn for her blatant disrespect in calling her model “curvy” (code word for “fat”) when she was anything but overweight. So glad the judges read that bitch for filth on this point! All of Shawn’s whining about the disadvantages of a team challenge and unconventional materials. Cry me a river, lady! Much stronger designers in past years have accepted these challenges with grace and creativity to produce stunning results. Anyways, a very inventive episode all-around.August 26, 2017 at 12:55 pm #1202195844
No way Sentell deserved to stay so good that he was eliminated. I think he did the worst obviously and at least Shawn looked designed to a degree and she’s entertainment. Heidi and the producers were not going to let her go like that when you had a 100% no doubt about it green trashbag on the runway. Did you sew Shawn’s top? Great! What about your entire outfit? Go away Sentell. This was even worse than ChaCha last week.
Elsewhere I think the right team won, however I can’t understand why it was so difficult to get to that point when they had such a great pattern and idea from Blonde Guy even before Tim came around. He should’ve won the challenge as he created the pattern everything was based on and his own outfit was excellent and for the second week in a row favored a real sized woman. He was robbed.
The girl who won was a 2nd or 3rd place for me because it was good…Stunning in general? Maybe. Moved great? Sure. But it was also the place where EVERYTHING from that team was dumped and I thought it was too much. It didn’t look real and wearable except for the fringe part. They could’ve edited that down. I say 2nd or 3rd because Kenya’s look also deserves that place as it was terrific, but was also the one outfit that didn’t really look like it belonged there. So yeah, for me, Blonde Guy wins.
The other twin is as ridiculous as Shawn. They’re both great meme factories though. They make the most amazing faces. Shawn is a goner for sure, I can’t imagine her staying. Will she keep screwing up? Indeed.August 26, 2017 at 12:58 pm #1202195845
Forgot to mention Maggie Q being an excellent judge. She gets huge points for calling out Shawn. I agree that her repeating, what was it? At least 3 times, that she had these 3 disadvantages was annoying as fuck.
But seriously, two episodes in, the judges are CLEARLY, feeding/forcing the curvy girl lines to go along with the multiple size girls twist of the season. I can’t imagine every single person going at it every single episode, and yet it appears that producers and editors are more than ok with that.August 28, 2017 at 9:06 am #1202197296
Project runway Season 16 episode 2
I love the unconventional challenges, I think they are the best at seeing who is a good designer and who is unable to make things unless they are a creative. It pushes them and makes them think outside the box. I love them (plus I have made some wearable art before and its sooo much fun)
Now the teams were ridiculous.. They should not have let the twins be on the same team. Shawn is a mess and her sister is an even worse designer. They have very little ability and their talent seems to be in a very niche style of leather work. They seem to need each other to function and to work in this environment because I don’t think they can design on their own.
Now I think that Amy was a hindrance in this episode, I think she feel into teacher mode and she was unable to get them to create anything new or exciting, even her look was boring and dated. The one thing I did like about it was using the plastic bottle holders to lace up the back.
Team WabiSabi- Hair and makeup were good for all the looks
Margarita – He look was cute, the top was a very samurai silhouette which is what the team was going for . I loved the metallic embellishments on the shoulder and the shorts were cute . I think the plastic would have looked better had it been layed over like lace and not so bunched up. LOVED the knot in the back.
Kudzanai – Good dress , seemed a little more simple looking but very wearable and I absolutely loved the use of the plastic as a shawl / over the shoulder thing.
Deyonte – OMG this dress was amazing … It looked like actually fabric … I mean it was stunning … the only issue I ahd was the back seemed a bit unfitted with the slashes going all the way up the back I would have maybe kept them to the side and made the back look a bit tighter. But overall amazing.
Micahel – I think his vision was almost achieved but overall strong work and it really looked beautiful.
Kentaro – LOVED THESE PANTS TO DEATH … poncho was super cute.
Team ballin on a budget – styling was perfection
Batani – This dress was stunning and it took me a bit to fall in love with it.. the details and work was stunning.
Kenya – this was sooo cute. She took the material and made fabric and it was perfection imo.
Ayana – the dress was cool but I didn’t love it as much as the other looks and didn’t think she should have won.
Brandon – he should have won for this look. It was stunning, and his print was why they had such good cohesion thought out the whole collection.
Aaron- Cute outfit. Wasn’t a big fan of the big panties underneath he could have used some of the orange in there and it would have popped but his look was good.
Team Tsunami — It was a natural disaster for sure. – styling was fine , I actually liked the braids
Shawn – her look was basic and boring and her excuses were deplorable.. she should have been sent home.
Samantha – he look was the best of the bunch and she was safe for sure.
Amy – Hers was boring and dated.. I don’t know about her taste level.
Claire – hers was almost the worst to look at .. it was soo basic and soo boring .. she should also be going home soon
Sentell – Now last week I thought he should have gone home for his horrible gold dress and this week I do think the dress was ugly and a trash bag. I just would have kept him over Claire because I am tired of her horrible looks and her horrible excuses.
All in all good episode
I predict Claire will go home next week .

who is going home this week ?
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great GatsbySeptember 1, 2017 at 10:39 pm #1202201529
Nice episode. I think this week it was good since a lot of people did a good job….the editors on the other hand did not. Pretty obvious Kudzanai and Margarita were going to be judged. They barely showed up in the previous episodes and suddenly here they are getting so much screentime. Classic Project Runway.
I have two very important questions before I get to the challenge: What was up with Kudzanai beard, it looked like it has Sould Glo on it. It shined way too much. It looked like foam, and next to his hair which was dry, it looked worse.
And is Deyonte Cornelius’ (from last season) older brother or dad?
Brandon finally won. He’s a contender. Deserved win. It’s not often that people just nail their references. Ariana Grande is crying over that look. It would look awful on her as was the case with her entire look from the Dangerous Woman album. But she would totally wear it. And then he goes for Rihanna who would also die for it but actually look good.
Kudzanai was an obvious choice. They wanted to give the twins a rest this week. But Shawn deserved to be on the bottom. Very similar feel from her week 1 look. Surprised that Margarita was on the top (upon further look it did look good) and that the old Teacher lady wasn’t. Was it because it looked too store-ish? Too ready to wear?
Again, good episode.September 4, 2017 at 11:39 am #1202203452
Kudzanai’s look was a complete eyesore. I’m baffled that it even made it in the runway as well as his overall taste level. Fully deserved elimination. Surprised that Deyonté imploded as much as he did this week. I think the finger mishap with the needle was more significant than the editing led us to believe, though I know he planned his super basic design before that and thought he was doing such a great job b/c the design was taking shape so easily. My winner was easily Batani who executed every tenet of this dance challenge flawlessly, bitches! I saw the work all through Brandon’s look with the challenging forms and silhouette. The judges can never stop creaming themselves over trendy, well-made jackets though, so whatever. The twins sort of redeemed themselves this week, well, at least Shawn did with a respectable “safe” design. Not sure what that red thing was Claire made that fit her model so poorly. I would have had her in the bottom three this week barely over Kentaro. I clearly see TPTB keeping the twins novelty around for a good while longer until they outlive their usefulness and the competition intensifies. It could be a great Tim Gunn moment to save one of them from elimination to preserve the sanity of the other. But that’s no way to win outright, so that’s not happening. Anyways, great challenge idea!September 9, 2017 at 11:41 am #1202208124
Oh Deyonté! Kinda sad to see him go, but his look really was unflattering on his model, and again, a designer can’t seem to make clothing appropriate and “sexy” enough for a plus-sized model. I knew this was going to be a thing all season long, and sure enough, it is. At least Deyonté will get to see his daughter being born. I teared up a bit when he said in confessional that people like him who come from where he does usually don’t make it. So real and sad. I think I would have actually chosen Shawn as the winner this week (the horror lol!), though Michael’s look was a throwback stunner. I preferred the effortless grace to Shawn’s look, but yes to the side eye of basically having Claire as the co-designer of this. This is exactly the kind of drama that TPTB wanted in casting twins. It’s only going to get worse until one of them is eliminated or the remaining designers cause a fuss about it. Felt bad for Kenya being in the bottom three, but sleepwear was totally outside of her element. I have her making the final four, so pull yo’ shit together, girl! Aaron was being so extra with his see-through girl shorts in judging SMDH. Just for that, he should have been eliminated too. Really cool that they got to sleep in the Empire State Building! That had to cost the show some money.September 9, 2017 at 12:55 pm #1202208162
“I’m known as the Naomi of Plus Size”….let’s just start with that fantastic delusional line…
And I can’t get to the challenge without mentioning Aaron…what a disaster this guy is. He looks like Buster Bluth went all Grey Gardens on us, with a little bit of Norma Bates dead on the basement thrown in there. (All of this could be an actual storyline on AD). Those shorts…I also want to punch him in the face for that moment whe he decided “you know what, I’m gonna wear this brown leather belt as a scarf today…My stupid shorts aren’t enough…”.
The Shawn and Claire thing is getting out of hand. They’re not hiding anything, Claire was literally yelling “help me” “do this for me” “finish my look” “design my look with me”. It’s ridiculous. The previews on episode 1 showed us Michael or Kentaro getting pissed and I have to asume it’s about this. I thought Shawn would win (what a shocker) and this would the episode where one of the two guys would explode and complain since Shawn would’ve won over them. Guess we’ll have to wait.
But seriously, Shawn’s look was great. I’m very shocked. And a win wouldn’t have bothered me since it was her who was doing Claire’s work. Not the other way around.
Michael deserved his win, I would’ve gone with either Kentaro or Shawn though.
Not crazy about this challenge that ended up with way too many dresses and almost red carpet looks. Deyonte definitely deserved to go home.September 12, 2017 at 1:30 pm #1202211169
Haha, what a perfect description of Aaron. He definitely deserved to be punished for those see-through bloomers and that belt noose. These were alarming choices.
I did also love the model (was it Liris?) saying she was the Naomi of plus. My first question was how much Project Runway was paying for the models this season, as I always thought they got up-and-comers and not anyone established enough to be the anyone of anything.
Anywho, just getting caught up on the season, and I’m really enjoying it so far! I’ve been more taken than usual with the designs, and in particular loved the Leap to Innovation challenge.
This episode featured one of my favorite things that happens any season — Heidi as the client. I’d enjoy Heidi in the workroom all the time, but she seems to cause designers to have meltdowns, so maybe not.
Add me to the list of people pleasantly stunned by how much I liked Shawn’s look. She and Claire are completely intolerable (I find it hard to believe none of the other designers have gotten into a scrap with either of them yet), but her look was awesome. Michael and Kentaro did a nice job as well, and there were quite a few others that turned out really nice. It’s amazing how many good looks the group can churn out when they’re prevented from making poor fabric choices by just being given the fabric.
I felt for Deyonte, and I did like his first look that got him the win, but boy oh boy were these last two bad. His was the worst in the previous episode, and was by far the worst here. I’m glad he’ll be able to see his kid being born, and I thought it was incredibly sweet of Zac to say that he was going to be an amazing dad. Kenya’s look wasn’t great, but it was the kind of thing that just went wrong, versus Deyonte’s look having been bad at basically every stage. Also, I like Brandon a lot, and his friendship with Kentaro is adorable, but I’m a little concerned about how similar his looks have generally been, aside from the win last episode.
I’m really looking forward to getting into some of the drama we saw in the previews!
