    Hey

what is everyone thinking about the show so fa r?

I like having Mary back , Vanessa is a great judge ( her green eye shadow is on point)

Last night the lady with green pants and white top who danced to Shirley Bassey was giving me life.

I do like the fact that it is back to (a) 18-30 year olds, and (b) no “stage vs. street” split this time – and they have even brought back the “choreography round” at the city auditions.

I want to see how “The Academy” turns out, although from the clips shown in the first episode, it looks like the “all-nighter group round” is back as well.  Will the ten finalists (and there are only ten this year, not 20) be assigned a “permanent” All-Star, like they did with the juniors?  (And since there are only ten finalists, how will they determine who gets the four “we need to fill out the group numbers” tour spots?)

One problem they probably won’t mention; there are only two audition cities this year – New York and Los Angeles.  From what I heard, the idea was to do what they did last year – everybody send in an audition video, and they would ask dancers to attend auditions based on those – but they ended up making them open auditions after all.  It probably didn’t help them that the video instructions said “only the dancer can be in the video,” which would have made it hard for ballroom specialists to enter…

For some reason, 7/3 is scheduled to be a repeat of the second episode.
I also notice that Fox has the season premieres of its Monday shows (Lucifer and The Gifted) on 10/2, while its other shows premiere during the previous week. Something tells me these two items are related, especially if Superhuman ends on 7/31 (assuming the first live show has to be two hours in order to have ten routines):
    7/10 – New York Auditions 2
    7/17, 24, 31 – The Academy (one hour each)
    8/7 – Top 10 Perform
then one elimination per week until
    9/18 – Cut to Top 4
    9/25 – Winner Announced

EDIT: Fox’s fall season starts on 9/25. Fox has announced that the top 10 perform on 8/7 and eliminations start 8/14, so presumably either there will be a double elimination at some point or there will be five in the final. I am guessing the double elimination, and would not be surprised if it is on 8/14.

Sorry, but you are not going to convince me that the team selections and eliminations are not rigged, or at least “coerced,” somehow. I find it very hard to believe that a dancer eliminated by an All-Star is suddenly allowed to be selected by another All-Star before the second All-Star has made her elimination, and then the following conversation takes place:
Cat: “Did you hear what happened?”
Second All-Star’s team members: “Yes – that means two of us will be eliminated.”
What would have happened if the second All-Star had made her elimination, and then decided to take in the eliminated dancer? (Wait, don’t tell me, let me guess: she would have had to go from four to two in the cut to 20.)

It reminds me of the first season of The X Factor, where Simon “changed his mind” about eliminating a singer, brought her back, and she ended up being the winner.

I dont like it when this show follows this format… I prefer them to get to the top twenty then make them dance every week. why do we always need the allstars back to dance… it stoo much

I’m enjoying it so far! Love, love, love Mark! I agree that the all stars coming back all the time is getting a little old.

Here are links to the clips for the dance performances nominated for choreography at the Emmys if anyone is interested. SYTYCD has two nods! The Mandy Moore ones from DWTS are pretty freaking awesome! She’s never won before and with her work on LaLa Land I’m hoping she takes this!

And since there are only ten finalists, how will they determine who gets the four “we need to fill out the group numbers” tour spots?

That might not be a problem this year; according to Cat, there will be All-Stars included in the tour.
