You know, we could be better at seeing the good ones on Netflix coming.  Predictions are what we do here after all.  All eyes were on House of Cards and Arrested Development, but Orange is the New Black ended up being bigger and better.  Stranger Things came out of nowhere last year and now this.  Thirteen hour-long episodes: A student explains why she committed suicide to her high school peers through a collection of cassette tapes she left behind.

Director: Tom McCarthy (Oscar winner, Spotlight)
Showrunner: Brian Yorkley (Pulitzer winner, Next to Normal)
Executive Producer: Selena Gomez (“Hands to Myself”)
Starring: Dylan Minnette (Scandal, Awake, Lost, Saving Grace), Kate Walsh (Private Practice), Brian D’Arcy James (Spotlight), Derek Luke (The Americans, Antwone Fisher)

LOL – I see your lowkey shade.

I think this seems a little too juvenile for the academy, no?

Alan Sepinwall, Uproxx: “13 Reasons Why is so compelling that I gladly immersed myself in all thirteen hours over a weekend.”

Maureen Ryan, Variety: “When it comes right down to it, this is simply essential viewing.”

Matt Roush, TV Guide: “A compulsively gripping drama that could be thought of as My So-Called Suicide.”

Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment Weekly: “A frank, authentically affecting portrait of what it feels like to be young, lost, and too fragile for the world.”

Sadie Gennis, TV.com: “This is the kind of show that can change the way people think and act, all without ever feeling preachy or condescending.”

Well that definitely sounds promising – I will check out the pilot at the very least.

I have been a little out of synch with critics this season, though. One Day At a Time, Insecure, and Series of Unfortunate Events did nothing for me to name a few.

Something tells me Selena made a huge mistake with not starring in the role of Hannah…

Sounds good, I don’t get why there’d be any shade towards Selena Gomez, she’s always been very talented.

Then I guess Stranger Things shouldn’t even bother. But yeah, i doubt it’ll get any awards love but is this a limited series? It has to be, right? Any more and it would negate the title.

This had been on my radar because of Selena and because I know a number of people who read the original novel, but I didn’t quite expect to read these types of reviews. It was already on my list to watch, but now I’m excited for it. Dylan Minnette has earned his breakout role.

Looks very juvenile based on the trailer, but with the pedigree attached and critical response, it certainly seems like something to keep an eye on.

I thought the teaser trailer was awful so this is a nice suprise. McCarthy, while directing a best picture, isn’t above delivering trash as we saw with The Cobbler.

Critics have been saying Kate Walsh is the standout performance. I have heard many say she will for sure be a strong Emmy contender for supporting actress. I’m excited for this to come out tommorow!
