Netflix is holding panels for several of its other programs, including The OA, but not for 13 Reasons Why. Read into that what you will, but also note the lack of a Stranger Things event for the Television Academy.

Uh oh. Does this mean because Stranger Things won the PGA and SAG Ensemble awards that Netflix thinks it is invincible to win the Emmy for Best Drama Series?

OR… are they showing preference towards their other Drama Series frontrunner The Crown, in much the same way one Oscar season Harvey Weinstein showed preference for Scorsese’s Gangs of New York over Chicago, because he wanted bragging rights for his studio Miramax being the one to deliver the legendary Scorsese’s first Oscar. Of course, we all know how well that turned out, don’t we? It totally backfired and made more Oscar voters turn away from GoNY, if anything!

But nobody at Netflix, including Ted Sarandos, is as singularly infamous as Harvey was was then, so I don’t know if it will backfire against The Crown, if it does turn out to be a thing of studio preference.

I just don’t buy the crown winning, I wouldn’t be shocked but did it really not have enough time to get PGA? It was out for over a month, like? Not to mention, did people actually watch it? I don’t know a single person who has watched it, I don’t think very many people have even heard of it. Stranger Things, Westworld, and even the Handmaid’s Tale seem to be more popular.

I see Netflix is finally playing the game. As little submissions as possible to make sure they have bigger chance at getting in. Good. It’d be dream come true if Katherine Langford somehow got nominated. It’d be probably the most inspired Emmy nomination ever. And it’s her only chance at getting that nomination. This year or never. Show her some love you lazy fuckers. Oh and nomination for Kate Walsh should be a given.

No drama series has won drama series without a PGA nomination since the first few years when they didn’t even have categories or nomination, just a producer of the year. It’s current format has been around about 20 years now and no one has won best drama series without at least a nomination from PGA.

@Teridax that link didn’t include the June panels, at the time, Now it does. Stranger Things panel is June 6

Oh. So much for my theory then. Good for Netflix for not daring to play favorites!

I would argue that Neicey Nash for Gettinf on is the most inspired nom ever but Langford would be great too.

    No supporting actors?

Annoyed with no Boe but it makes sense that they want Walsh to have a chance.

I watched the entire series in about two days and was very pleasantly surprised. I thought the series was beautifully done; the writing was nearly flawless and did a fantastic job of capturing what it is like to be a teenager and to be completely lost. I think they did a great job of understanding how teenagers think and act, of portraying the impulsive nature of teenagers. I think they also perfectly captured the disconnection between teenagers and their parents and teachers.

Acting wise for me, the standouts were Dylan Minette, Billy Flynn and Alisha Boe for the kids, and for the adults Kate Walsh without a doubt. To me, the weakest link was Derek Luke, who I’m not sure they used effectively at all.

As for Emmy, I can see this grabbing a Directing Nod and a writing nod, but I can’t picture any cast member outside of Kate Walsh contending for a slot.

No Alisha Boe or writing submissions.

I thought Ep. 11 would have been a pretty good showcase for Minette

The no writing submissions is heartbreaking to me because I think that the writing is one of the highlights of this show. And I gotta say that the lack of submissions for their younger cast is upsetting. I feel like this cast had some real standouts in Alisha Boe, Billy Flynn, Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford.

And the submission for supporting actor are very odd to me, Stephen Weber and Wilson Cruz didn’t really have a story-arch to work with. I would have been more satisfied if they submitted all the teen characters in lead, and all the adult characters in supporting and let Emmy voters decide who to root for. Also, I would have loved to see Greg Araki get submitted for his directing.

Those guest submissions are indeed random. Would have liked to have seen them send out #11 instead of #12 and if they are being strategic about submissions, they should have only pushed Tom McCarthy for directing. I would have thought that they would campaign Derek Luke.

Darn it, it is guest not supporting. Sorry, when you get to be my age you have a difficult time reading smaller print, lol.

Perhaps the “In all cateogories including” means that the submission list isn’t exhaustive and some were left out. If not, no writing submissions would be a shame as there are episodes with great writing.

Good move to push Kate Walsh for supporting by not submitting Boe. Would love for Walsh to get a nom and she has the best chance IMO.

Also would love to see Langford get nominated as I thought she was excellent, but I no that it’s not too likely. Minnette would be nice to see as well.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see McCarthy garner a directing nod. He is a Oscar winner and likely has some clout in the showbiz industry as a result.

Also, I assume that shows don’t need to submit for the Creative Arts categories (editing, cinematography, etc.) and they are automatically entered for consideration?

Good eye! I didn’t even notice that at first and now that makes me wonder if this ad is just highlighting some of the submissions.

Good point. FX submitted Jackson for Roanoke but I don’t think he was on the DVD
