“American Horror Story: Asylum” has a new main title design, so that’s in the mix too this year.March 5, 2013 at 7:08 pm #270889
I think Mindy Project has a nice chance of being nominated for Theme. Sort of pop/indian mix that deserves a nomination. Entertainment Weekly singled it out in the Best of the Year issue. The Titles not so much, they’re awful.
American Horror Story deserves the nod this year again. It might be more of the same, but it’s just as good. Elementary is another easy choice. Same for The Americans.
The Newsroom probably will be nominated. They’re way too long, but it’s the kind of thing that gets nominated for both awards. House of Cards also has some typically nominated music. The credits are standard as hell, they ruined the great main title card design at the end with the use of regular and boring Trajan (I think) for the rest of the titles before it.March 5, 2013 at 11:25 pm #270890
Agreed that “The Newsroom” titles are long, but Newman’s theme needs the room. Indeed, there are a few episodes where that title sequence is the highpoint of the hour.March 6, 2013 at 9:25 am #270891
I’m very fond of Elementary‘s opening titles. And Sean Callery won a couple of times for his 24 music.March 16, 2013 at 1:30 pm #270892
Has anyone noticed that New Normal’s opening titles have been largely absent in the last several episodes? I wonder if they took it out after the feedback that it was so awful.March 16, 2013 at 4:35 pm #270893
Speaking of shows Nene’s on….This will sound crazy, but for the simple fact of being such a step up from the tacky and awful initial titles, The Real Housewives of Atlanta have some cool new titles this season, I don’t know if they’re going around for every show in the franchise because I only watch Jersey and Atlanta. It’s not that they’re the best out there, but they’re just sooooooo much better than the regular ones and the “ATL” and camera movements are much better than the women simply turning around in those awful poses and their families jumping in the background.
Also, Go On has an opening sequence, they just don’t come up in every episode (like The New Normal). They’re not good for a nomination, but if you’re doing a master list then it should be up there for consideration.March 17, 2013 at 7:56 am #270894
HBO’s “The Newsroom” just has to be one of the contenders. Its main title design is an homage to broadcast news throughout the years, with Oscar-nominee Thomas Newman scoring. Seems to be their kind of thing.March 17, 2013 at 8:26 pm #270895
although i know it probably wont get in, I really like 1600 Penn’s opening sequence. I think it tells it’s own little story and I love the music, it fits the scene and the show perfectly.March 18, 2013 at 8:28 am #270896
Elementary, both main titles and music are extra-ordinary.
My favourite Title´s and Music are the 10th Kingdom. It won Titles… pity they didnt awarded with music.May 5, 2013 at 7:55 pm #270897
Any new main title contenders since March?
Hannibal has a brief main title sequence but I don’t know that it’s a contender.May 5, 2013 at 8:12 pm #270898
I really love Top of the Lake’s title sequence. Very eerie and rather surreal, not too different from that story itself actually.May 5, 2013 at 8:20 pm #270899
“Rectify” has a striking main titlle sequence. It should be added to the masterlist.
