24 Hour Catwalk: Episode One (Active Wear)
I’m guessing this is the first episode. Since on Lifetime’s website they have another episode called Sneak Premiere Episode (Vintage)
I watched both and enjoyed them! I like a good reality competition show that involves art, creativity, skills, and talent. This is Project Runway meets Food Network’s Chopped.
I adore Alexa Chung. She comes across as personable, sincere, and funny. The judges are fine. Cynthia Rowley is always a good judge to listen too.
However, I don’t know if the show is about designers or just about the judges and sewers. The sewers pop-in and kinda take over the show. Justraymona totally takes the spotlight. The show almost feels like it’s just here to make-fun of the designers and to knock them down a few pegs.
Of course the sewers give a lot of smack to the camera about the designers which seems unfair since they are doing their best (I think) to create a collection in…24 Hours.
In the future, it would be nice if the designers could pick their sewers. At this point it feels staged as to which designer will butt-heads with the sewers. Of course that’s what makes for a good reality show.
Alexa Chung for Outstanding Reality/Competition Host
I didn’t watch the second (“Active Wear”) episode, but I caught the first. It was weird how much it’s like “Chopped” on the Food Network, but with fashion.
I like Alexa Chung a lot; the judges were fine, too. Cynthia Rowley was a good judge on “Design Star” on HGTV, too, which I don’t watch anymore so I don’t know if she’s pulling double-duty.
The funniest and oddest part of the episode was how the sewing teams were openly mutinous and trash-talking the contestants. They don’t need that kind of stuff, but it definitely differentiates the show.
This could become a utility player like “Chopped” for Food Network, especially since “Project Accessory” was such a dud. Good idea that just had no personality.
Project Accessory was a good idea but sadly it was missing a level of drama/suspense. Like a lost earring in a sofa. Perhaps they should use this format. I think PA needed to have more competitions. Or perhaps like they do on SyFy’s Face-off…have an immunity round and then a go-home round.
