In a discussion yesterday a topic came up that I found quite interesting.. Is it possible to find out which sitcom Actor and Actress had made the most money off of Syndication? I could only find ratings tracking info for Syndicated shows, nothing with amounts for its actors.. You guys are the best in the bizz at this kind of research. Who can find out some info on this?

My guesses were Roseanne and Ed O’Neil.

Good guesses, but without doing any other research I’d guess Jerry Seinfeld (and Larry David) for “Seinfeld.” Check the linked article; it’s made billions in syndication and they get a huge chunk of that dough.

Seinfeld is re-run very often! Interesting article.. Thank you for posting. I wonder if the answer is JLD and Jerry?

Golden Girls airs on hallmark 4 times in the morning and 4 in the evening and the WE channel also airs the Golden Girls.

In general, the people who received a percentage of their actual show (rather than just residuals) have made the most out of syndication. Of your first example, Roseanne would have made a fortune while Ed O’Neill made a tiny amount compared to her.

Other big scores by actors have been by Bill Cosby, Kelsey Grammer, Andy Griffith, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Jerry Seinfeld, Will Smith, and a bunch of others (a person’s name or character’s name in the title is often a big hint). The cast of “Friends” also had massive deals.

How do we find out actual financials? or is it just a best guess? It seems like NBC actors have the most success AFTER his/her show ends?
