Okay, as much as I was shocked (and happy, ’cause I love Scolari and “Girls”) for Scolari’s win, I think this proves something that, never made any sense to me when they announced it, and makes less sense now, and it’s the fact that they didn’t nominate enough people in the category. Think about the Series categories and how they get seven automatic nominations but the acting categories are only 6, minimum? So, hypothetically, you can have a show get nominated for only Best Series, and let’s says it’s a complete popular vote and they’re just gonna vote for the same actors on the shows they like, so something can get nominated in Series and have ever other show get an acting nomination, just one, in every acting category, and the seventh show gets nothing else. Yes, there’s the 2% rule, but this just proves that that rule’s is probably useless, because I can now point to somebody who didn’t get within 2% of the nominations, but got in due to a disqualification and won the Emmy, so it’s possible that’s too low a percentage, but even ignoring that math, it makes no sense, ’cause there’s a great deal more performers in every category then there are series in each category. Not every show has just one actor, so if they can say, “They need to nominate seven series, ’cause there’s too much competition for that,” then naturally, all the other underneath categories, the major ones, should go to seven, minimum also, ’cause rarely do all these shows also only have one writer and only one director and episode over the whole season…. The problem isn’t that he won after not getting nominated, the problem is that he should’ve been nominated in the first place, and the Emmys have to look into this next year. This is definitive evidence of that, they either by their logic extend the nominations for each category.

This was probably their way of saying that they really wanted MacNicol to win this.

All I have to say is that this website is the reason for this odd Emmy win

Can someone please explain to me how Peter MacNicol can get his nomination revoked for appearing in too many episodes (by about 20 sec) but Peter Scolari can somehow win an Emmy without enough votes in the first round? Maybe Riley Chow can point this out and strip another Peter of Emmy glory?

It’s a new round of voting.

He may have nabbed a bunch of votes too from old-school Emmy members who were around in the 80s and remember his Newhart nominations.

True. The numb nut who pointed it out is responsible for this.

I have not seen Peter Scolari’s submission. How is it?

Why? This isn’t the first time a replacement nominee has been announced. The members voted for him and he won.

Pretty good actually. In the 2014 system, I’d have him ranked 2nd or 3rd.

YES! The veteran’s vote, that makes perfect sense. Plus, him actually being really great and vulnerable in the episode itself couldn’t have hurt his chances.

    Amazing. So well-deserved win.

On principle, Scolari’s win doesn’t bother me. In fact, this is kinda the way it should work in the sense that an under-the-radar contender should be able to get a nomination — even just barely — and then have it be a clean slate where all nominees are on equal footing to be judged on the merit of their work.

I don’t think voters really watched any of the episodes, but Scolari deserved an equal chance to win that award, even as an substituted nominee.

This is only show that there is something very wrong with the nomination process or enough voters f**k up the the second round of voting. This is wrong anyway you see it.
