I am a huge fan of VEEP but watching the show this season I didn’t notice any episodes that were big highlights for its leading lady Julia Dreyfus ecxcept for the season premiere which was good but I am not sure if it’s good enough to win. Does anyone else in this category have the better chance to win? Possibly Amy Poehler or Schumer?

Dreyfus is not winning this year, and here’s why:

    1. Dreyfus does not have a winning submission this year, but Poehler absolutely does.

    2. This is Poehler’s final season, and the voters are well aware of that

    3. Poehler is far more in the public eye, because of Inside Out

    4. Parks and Recreation got back into Series, showing there’s far more support for the show than anticipated.

    5. Poehler is way overdue. 14 nominations overall, 0 wins.

I think it is Lisa Kudrow is the one that will steal the thunder. I’m a little foggy with this whole new voting system but if voters are watching, I just can’t see how you turn your head away from that performance. Poehler definitly can win (And I would be over the moon for her to win) but I think Kudrow is a force to reckon with

There’s already a JLD thread, you guys. I believe this could be discussed there?

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has won with middling tapes for this performance before and is the only nominee with a SAG Award for her performance.  She could lose, but “for sure”?  That is too much of a stretch.

Your Inside Out point is a bit of a stretch. If a movie is going to help sway votes it’ll be Trainwreck.

Amy Poehler will get her Emmy when the Golden Globes win Special Class Program.

She has two tapes this year that are better than the one she won for last year – the premiere and the finale. She could lose, indeed, because it’s not easy to win four in a row, but last year we all thought Parsons would lose and he won. Also, Veep is a major threat for Comedy Series. This is one of the greatest comedic performances in American television history hands down, and her peers already see that, so even if she “appears less” this season, the respect for her craft is overwhelming.

Also, if not JLD, I don’t think Poehler would be the second in line to win.

Amy now has 17 Emmy nominations (not 14 as reported by the TV Academy) with no wins yet.

She had two previous years to win that Emmy, and it didn’t pan out, so I don’t see why this year would be any different. Not really a noteworthy category for her to win anyway.

I don’t really care about Amy Poehler, JLD or their fans. This award should goes to Lisa Kudrow because she gave the best performance of the 2014/15 season. Period.

I have a feeling Lisa Kudrow will win this year. She actually has the strongest performance in my opinion and that is no diss to the wonderful Poehler and Louis Dreyfuss…
I see the race ranked liked this.

    1. Lisa Kudrow
    2. Amy Poehler (Hopefully she can win with the Golden Globes for Special Program at least)
    3. Julia Louis Dreyfuss
    4. Amy Schumer (she’s very funny and “hot” right now, but she’s not winning here people)
    5. Edie Falco
    6. Lily Tomlin

If it was based on performance alone, Kudrow would win easily. As good as she is, Louis-Dreyfuss doesn’t come close.

Trainwreck is a reason I’m considering Schumer, but I’m waiting to see what her submission is and how it stands up against the others. The reason I mention Inside Out is that she did such a prominent press tour for it, and it helped the movie’s success. The Special Class Program Emmy is probably not going to her either, I currently have The Globes ranked a third in that race. I’m not a massive Poehler fanboy either, to be clear. I haven’t actually watched Parks and Rec since Season 4, outside of her submissions. Schumer would be my personal first choice, but I’m just analyzing the race as I see it.

I’m hoping the sentimentality will help Poehler win. But I have to say as a huge fan who would have ranked her first multiple years, I just don’t really see why everyone is calling Leslie and Ron a winnable tape. It sets itself up to be this big clash where the characters escalate and get more and more ridiculous (mainly leslie) but right at the point where she’s starting to get over the top and wacky and maybe even angry, the character just settles down and spends to rest of the episode trying to get information out of ron. The ar totally plateaus, but if it had kept going it could have been win worthy for her. But then again a lot of people seem to think it is, so hopefully voters agree with them and not me.

And with Amy Schumer, she could win here but I think she’s more dominate the variety categories. I feel like Amy Schumer is really seen as a writer/comedian first, and an actress second. That’s why they’ll reward her for variety writing, and maybe variety series as a way to encampsulate everything she does for the show, but I think actress is the least likely out of her multiple nominations.
