The Steven Soderbergh helmed biopic, based on the Scott Thorson autobiography of the same name, airs 5/26 on HBO. It stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

The film has an exclusive profile in EW. This is looking like the one to beat this year in the movie/miniseries categories!

I dont know, I TRY my best to not prejudge anything…but this movie,,, ok,,,,

well, full disclosure. Im gay and as Ive gotten older, i consider myself very militant about how gays are portrayed on tv/films. and Im generally disappointed with it. I could write forever why and what bothers me, but I wouldn’t bother you all with my feelings on the matter,

Honestly, Im really dreading this movie. I know people will be like, just relax and enjoy the campyness/craziness of it all, don’t take it seriously, but its hard for me personally, to do that.

It seems it will be the most over the top, offensive, flamboyant, stereotypical and cringworthy thing Id ever see. And YES I know, thats who Liberace was, its just, for me, would be hard to watch. Mainly beacuse, we havent overcome yet and still way too many people think we are all like that. Nothing is wrong with being like that, but when its the face of your community, to everyone else…

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer … If the reviews are good  i may watch it. Im just so skeptical, Im just hoping its a serious look at their life and not a ‘joke’ of a bio pic,,,  just M.O.  🙂

Well I’m gay (also) and I think you are taking this too seriously. For one, It seems that your main issue is with gay people being portrayed as over the top and femine? Well, the truth is some of us ARE femine and some of us ARE over the top.

I am all for breaking stereotypes and all, but this is a BIOPIC about a REAL person and I’m looking forward to it. Also, I feel that as long as there is a base level of human decency portrayed than I’m okay with a character being whatever they are, femme or not.

Yes, and i said it is MY issue. Im very very critical and I do take it personally on this topic.

And believe me, we dont need to be portrayed only a certian way or in a good light, And stereotypes exist for a reason. But to ME, it seems gay characters are nearly always over the top ( which can be fun, no doubt). Or they are asexual and a love life is never seen and hardly talked about. As I said, I could go on and on on this subject, but Ill spare ya’ll of that 🙂

by the by, Im not against diversity in our communtiy. Im not at all someone who’d be confused as straight, my voice alone…. lol

I feel GleeFull’s concerns. But my interest in this is strictly Steven Soderbergh. For much that is made about him leaving the game, he has taken on different works in the last few yrs. that if indeed he leaves the game, he’ll leave behind a legacy of eclectic work.

Yes! Especially over Pacino’s usual overacting in Phil Spector.

Hypothetically, if the categories weren’t being combined, I wonder where Matt Damon would be placed. Would it be…

    Lead Actor
    – Matt Damon
    – Michael Douglas

    Supporting Actor
    – Dan Aykroyd
    – Rob Lowe

    …Or…

    Lead Actor
    – Michael Douglas

    Supporting Actor
    – Dan Aykroyd
    – Matt Damon
    – Rob Lowe

And of course it would for sure be…

    Supporting Actress
    – Debbie Reynolds

But we’ll never know. Just fun to speculate

This looks fantastic across the board.  Douglas looks like he will be sweeping the awards.

Also, very excited about seeing Matt Damon in a speedo as per the trailer and OMFG Debbie Reynolds!?!?!?!?!?

    Yes, this is a must.
