I’m not sure TV cliffhangers are as nail-biting to me now that there are 5,000 shows to keep track of, but I’m wondering what some of people’s favorite and least favorite cliffhangers are.

The all-time greatest for me is “Star Trek: TNG‘s” “Best of Both Worlds, Part 1.” Picard assimilated by the Borg and then Riker’s command of “Fire!” against the Borg ship is still thrilling even decades after knowing how it turned out.

Most emotional for me was “Buffy‘s” second season finale, “Becoming.” Killing Angel, and skipping town with Sarah McLachlan’s “Full of Grace” playing over it — a gut punch even know, unbearable to wait for season three at the time.

I also gotta put “24‘s” first season finale up there. We didn’t know what to expect from the show at the time, but to end its first season with a big triumph and then a big defeat in the murder of Jack’s wife was pretty revolutionary and a huge risk to close your story on a colossal bummer. But I think it paid off.

The exact ones I would’ve said. Nice.

The worst cliffhangers are when the show never returns and you’re stuck wondering what the hell.

Dallas for “Who Shot J.R.” has to be on any list of TV’s greatest cliffhangers.  It was essentially a national phenomenom at the time.

Don’t forget “Who Shot Mr. Burns, Part 1”
